Owls Set To Extend Showunmi Deal

Wednesday boss Brian Laws is all set to give the nod for Bristol City striker Enoch Showunmi to extend his loan stay at Hillsborough for another two months.

Showunmi, out of favour at Ashton Gate, arrived at Hillsborough initially one a one-month emergency loan deal but is all set to agree to stay at Hillsborough for a further two months, the maximum time available, after impressing in the blue and white stripes.

Laws has been hampered with injuries in attack, with Akpo Sodje being ruled out for the remainder of the season, while Francis Jeffers and Leon Clarke are also sidelined through injury.

And although the Owls boss is hopeful of bringing young Chelsea starlet Ben Sahar to S6, a deal to secure Showunmi's services for a further two months will give Laws more options in attack.

City, currently hoping to secure a play-off spot at least after a fantastic season, will put a 24-hour recall clause on the striker should they need his services.

Laws told the Sheffield Star: 'We'll be looking to extend the loan though Bristol City would be able to recall him if they hit an injury crisis; we want to keep him for as long as possible.'

And he went on to say that he has been impressed with the performances of the big hitman, who won the Hillsborough faithful over in the 0-0 stalemate with Charlton Athletic last time out.

'They got more effective as the game went on; Showunmi was starting to turn and run with the ball,' he continued.

'He has good pace and strength and good feet for a big fella. He played some great crosses with his left foot when he pulled out wide; we were just a yard away from having the ball in the back of the net.

'If we can play to the strengths of Showunmi and Tudgay and get crosses into the box, we can upset anybody.'

Why? hes not very good. sahar has obviously turned us down
mansfieldowl
Showumni played well in the match with Charlton, and I'd say he offers more than the rest of the strikers we have at our disposal. Linked pretty well with Tudgay too.
nickswfc
Agree Nick with everything youhave just said!!
will it ever happen
yea we wouldnt keep him unless 1 of two things, jeffers is *****ed for the rest of the season or sahar turned us down, id probably say both tho, coz we are wednesday and everything always goes breasts up
smiggyswfc
jeffers is done, there dowsn't seem to be much happening from the club regarding his situation, I think we are screwed we have let thirty goals (at least) leave the club ( macca, brunt, whelan) and that will be our downfall, I don't want to open the dispute as to why these players left but when you lose that sort of firepower then obviously things are going to be very difficult

I know it's traditional to be negative, but I can see us getting both Showunmi and Sahar. We've got the money knocking about and it is clear where we need back up. Even with Sahar and Showunmi, it only gives us 4 fit strikers. This would also give Jeffers time to get back because Laws won't want to rush him. I didn't rate Showunmi after the first game, but he was doing some fantastic work against Charlton and was very unlucky not to score.
