Beevers And Brunt Up For Gong

Fast approaching is the Football League Awards night on Sunday March 2nd: two gongs in particular will be of interest to Owls fans.

The Wickes Young Apprentice Award for the Championship features our very own Mark Beevers: his nomination is recognition of his efforts during the year in which he broke through into the first team and became a regular fixture in the Owls back four, catching the eye with very effective performances for one so young. He's now pushing for international honours with the junior England set up.

The Mitre Goal Of The Year Award will be contested by five players. Our Vital SWFC Goal Of The Season is one of them: Chris Brunt's stunning strike from distance against Leeds on the 3rd of March last year. We remember it well: defender robbed, Brunt 35 yards out, scores, simple as. Genius! Bitter-sweet for us, as Brunty is now of course part of the promotion-chasing West Bromwich Albion squad, but we wish him well on Awards night.

There'll be the usual gongs for Player of the Year and Young Player of the Year (both voted for by visitors to the Four Four Two magazine web site) plus many more categories: check them all out on the Football League web site.
