Chelsea, Chelsea For Beevers?

Young Wednesday centre-back Mark Beevers has enjoyed a rapid progression at Hillsborough this season, so much so that he's being targeted by Chelsea if today's tabloids are to be believed.

Today's Daily Star is reporting that the Barnsley-born product, who came through the Wednesday youth academy, is tha target of a £1m-raid by Avram Grant's multi-millionaire side at Stamford Bridge.

Former Wednesday boss Paul Sturrock had already predicted great things for the youngster before he even broke on to the first team scene at S6, revealing that Manchester United were keen admirers of the centre-back, and that one day he could well go on to play for England.

But, such is the reliability of the report, they state that Beevers was voted the club's apprentice of the year this season.

He was, as we all know, voted as the Football League Apprentice of the Year earlier this month, something which may well have attracted the interest of Premiership clubs up and down the country.

But despite the Owls' current financial status, it's unlikely that they'll let go of their now-prized possession for the £1m stated in the report, with the youngster recently putting pen to paper on a new deal to keep him at Wednesday.

£1M MY ARSE
FUTURES BLUE N WHITE
Not much difference between Beevers and Gareth Bale in my opinion. How much did Bale go to Tottenham for?
Disgruntled Owl
Was it about £10million?
johnnywalker69
Yep. Spot on, Johnnywalker69!
katy_kanga
1 million? when was the last time chelsea paid 1 million for anyone you can times that by 15 you chealski scum bags
ozzietheowl
personally i wouldn't sell, our future is in the hands of such talent and just like spurr this kid will get better, hope he keeps his feet on the ground cos news like this can be distracting at the very least, if bale was worth 10 mil then beevers value should match this, minimum
dbblue
Well if we do get relegated i think he will go and for around that price, depending on a takeover that is!!
will it ever happen
1m is peanuts. and anyways he's not for sale!
Bigash
i think we shud smack a 7 million minimum price on his head all other clubs do it but we nether do
boothe
The Daily Star eh? got to be true then, £1 million, ha ha ha ha
BOUNCIN OWL
maybe i'd believe this if sheffield star reported it but definately not *****in daily star
benowl
He'll only go if we go down. And we all know that is not going to happen. Plus, the BBC rumours page initially put "Richard Beevers" first thing, anyone else spot that?! Idiots can't even get his name right. Hopefully Chelski will never lick the Beevers one way or the other and he'll remain a Russian Owl through and through
S6Apple
If we do get relegated it wont just be Beevers going, i can name at least 5 players that would be going!
will it ever happen
ooh haa daily toilet paper again zzzzzzzzzzzzz
Looney Tune
wait and see if takeover happens. if it doesnt he will go with 1 or 2 others
mick66owl
no takover spells exactly the same policy as the previous couple of seasons, that is a fact!!
dbblue
Difference is ...they just signed him to a new contract which means that they will NOT be forced to sell him on the cheap before his contract expires - that will mean that they can hold out for a decent offer.....Bale went for 7Mill ...but he had already played (and scored) at full International level. I think Wednesday could get 3 or 4 million for Beevers in the next 12 months ...but only half of that if he is playing and proving himself at a lower level of football (ie the Leeds United level)

not for sale enough said
beverley owl
not for sale!!

didn't someone write that the stock market had been informed of our takeover? what happened? someone lose the post-it note. tonight is bigger than the disappointment that is the english cricket team trying to bat out a day for a draw.
HootingMad
not for sale, he also said that he heard other clubs were interested in him but he wanted to stay and play first team footy rather than move to a big club and play reserve team footy again which makes perfect sense, he is in the best place now learning his trade and who knows if the takeover goes through, he is a player we should look to build a team around
BIG TONY
the guy who scored an own goal for the U's this season!!!!

chelsea stay away
100% owl
interesting but dont think there is any truth in this at all!! i like beevers hes a little bit rusty still but hes young. he has an excellent future and to go to chelsea would be a disaster - look at wallcot at arsenal wasting away not even on the bench. games make a player look at jags for us absolute quality and hes cutting it at everton now. stay put beevers if you go to chelsea you will deteriate as you will never play but in the reserves. if 2.5m came in for him i think you would have no option but to sell him though, what do you think?
bladesforlife1889
7m lets be fair thats never going to happen
