Owl's Eye View - Cov

Those all important Owls player ratings from Saturday afternoon, by our man on the spot, willowowl.

Grant: 7 - Had a thread about him a few days ago, got us a point today with 3 vital saves though he was lucky to stay on the pitch when he lost his head halfway through the first half after being kicked twice.

Hinds: 5 - OK game, tackled ok, shielded the ball out well but was passed by trickery 3 or 4 times. Had no help from Songo'o mind.

Beevers: 6 - Good game, held line well with Woody, headed, tackled and he can see the play well. Why can`t he kick the ball under pressure, he always shins it out?

Wood: 7 - Woody is vital for us staying up, with Beevers they are a good partnership. Another good performance, strong and brave in tackling, could have given a pen away in the first 10 mins though.

Spurr: 5 - Had the torrid task of containing Michael Mifsud and not well I'm afraid. Didn't get forward at all and was skinned on many occasions though as with Hinds he did not have much help from his wingman Small.

Songo'o: 5 - Lucky to stay on the pitch, a stricter ref and he would have been sent off after his second tackle. Didn't do much in attack, lost the ball in dodgy places and didn't give Hinds much protection.

Kav: 6 - Had our only two shots, one from a free kick, one right at end of the game. Passing was wayward but tackled well and grafted well. Didn't pass the first man with his set-pieces.

Macca: 6 - Ran his socks off without doing much, does all of the underrated work in midfield.

Small: 5 - Didn't have a great match. Didn't seem to run anywhere, was just strolling. Only seemed interested when he had the ball. Poor Tommy was struggling with Mifsud all match and I though Wade should have helped out a bit more. Played better in the last ten minutes when he was up front.

Tudgay: 5 - Had nothing to work with and Cov's back 2 won most of the headers from the goal kicks from Grant. Ran his heart out but wasn't a threat at all.

Burton: 6 - As with Tuddy had no supply at all, he held the ball up well when he got it with some good first touches but again never looked a threat to the Coventry goal.

Laws: 6 - First sub should have been made a bit earlier. Songo'o kept fouling and looked like he could have been sent off, Laws replaced him with BOB with Small going to the right. The other subs were just trying something else, Enoch for Tuddy, then he moved Small up and took Burton off for Bolder.

Ref (Jarnail Singh): 6 - He saw the game well but was very lenient: Ward just minutes after receiving a yellow, blatantly kicked out at Grant. Grant was then kicked halfway through the half by Thornton I think and reacted in a way that could have got him sent off. As I've said already Songo'o was lucky too. If it was Rob Styles we would have had 3 sent off.

A point well earnt by all accounts. Lesta were jammy (but looking worryingly good), Saints are awful and still a lot of other teams in the mix down the bottom. Three consecutive and very tough home games ahead. Need to take at least 6 points from these. Lets get behind the boys even more. Up the Wednesday!

We need nerves of steal - Songo'o gives us a nice release down the right - the ball seems to stick with him, I hope we can keep Songo'o for a while longer, also hope Ben Sahar can be fit and start his 1st game at the weekend.

I listened to the Coventry commentary (called us Sheffield United twice... but then again, they called them Sheffield Wednesday earlier in the week so it is not personal...), and even though you can expect the Cov commentators to be biast, it did sound as though we were not pushing for the win, which is rather worrying. They are now talking about the return match as being the decisive match in their campaign. But I don't think we can send them down by 1st April, can we ;)

Worksop.Owl, your right, lol, I went to againts QPR, couldnt make it againts Colchester and Coventry. Well I was comparing him to JJ from what I seen againts QPR. If we do stay up tho, we need to be aggressive in the loan market and get high quality season loans before other clubs snap em up.

Problem we've got is we can't make any signings or talk to any potential players until we've sorted out this season. Also, possible takeover stuff means that you don't know whether to look at signing Kav, Bolder, etc or wait for money and get some real talent in.
