'Owls New Backers Revealed' - yes, I'm sure most of you realised the date, but some of you didn't, and it seemed to cause a stir.
We had to do something, and we're sorry if we got your hopes up, or quite simply didn't amuse you, but it seemed to go down quite well!
Of course, Olaf Pyorild S.A is an anagram of April Fools Day, for those you who are still half asleep or just didn't get it...
Here it is if you missed it...
Breaking news in the financial and sporting world is that a Polish telecommunications giant is the driving force behind the takeover of Sheffield Wednesday.
Not content with the upcoming acquisition of Owls sponsors PlusNet (their web site has already been translated into Polish from English in preparation for the takeover - go to www.plus.net and click on the Polish flag), the company, with over 250,000 employees and a turnover of billions of Euros this year as the mobile phone market spreads throughout Eastern Europe, is establishing itself as a force in the sporting world by backing the Sheffield Wednesday takeover deal.
A public relations spokesman for Olaf Pyorild S.A. told Vital SWFC: 'We see a great synergy between the fast moving world of telecommunications and sport.. there are many common areas for marketing in addition to the obvious ones of shirt sponsorship and television deals. Our aim will be to assist Sheffield Wednesday in reaching the top, featuring in the bigger competitions in Europe and, of course, simultaneously flying the flag for our company when they feature on the sports TV channels of the world. This can be supported by Sheffield Wednesday content for mobile phones, ringtones and other multimedia, plus internet ventures.. it is possible in this day and age to imagine a subscription internet-based streaming video channel entirely dedicated to the Owls, featuring all the live matches. It is our ambition to achieve this within five years.'
He continued: 'It will also be our aim to establish links with the biggest and best Polish clubs, much in the same way the best Premiership teams have feeder clubs from other parts of the world. The Polish economy is strong now, and there is a great sense of achievement in developing sport for the benefit of the Polish people. Sheffield Wednesday will be involved in that development.'
Vital SWFC is breathless with this news. At last, a clear indication of the future direction of our beloved club.. the future is bright, the future is Wednesday!
Until next year!....
