Simek Out For Campaign

Wednesday right-back Frank Simek has received a further set-back in his return from injury by being ruled out for the rest of the season.

The American international was hoping to return to help the Owls in their battle against relegation this season but a specialist recommended the former Arsenal product went for surgery which would see him sidelined for the Owls' final games of the season.

Simek had featured in reserve team games of late and looked to be back on track for a welcome return to first team duties, but after featuring in two games it appeared his ankle had still not fully recovered.

Owls boss Brian Laws told the Sheffield Stars: 'Frankie has been away from the team for such a long time now that we have coped.

'We've got to the stage where we were trying to get him back, but it just wasn't happening. Frankie wasn't happy with it, and neither were the medical team.

'It was a question of carrying on in the same vein, or taking a look inside the ankle.'

The news means Wednesday are still short on right-backs, after having to use Jermaine Johnson there in the 1-1 draw with Coventry City in midweek, with Richard Hinds and Lee Bullen also out injured.

But Steve Watson could well make a return after featuring from the bench in recent weeks.

yup big loss, but might as well get him fit for next season so he's firing on all celinders (im glad in a way we r not rushing him, although we do miss him, but i rekon watson will do a fine job at RB till hinds comes back, just hope watson dont get injured

In a sort of strange way, i'm glad he's ruled out for the remainder of the season. Gives him and the physio's plenty of time to get his recovery and fitness back to 110% and ready for pre-season, next season!

It is a shame for Frankie and Wednesday but your right we don't want to be rushing him back. Lets hope he does'nt put JJ at right back again. I read in the paper today Southampton are on the brink of administration god i hope so.

I bet Frankie will stay. He seems to really like it here, and I would think other teams who might be interested would want to see him in post-injury play before they lay down the £££ for him. Sounds like he won't be playing for us in the USA vs. England friendly come May. All the better him and the owls tho. He needs to get fit so he can stay fit.
