Despite not being in action today, Wednesday returned to the Championship's bottom three after Iain Hume bagged a late leveller for Leicester City - but it's not all bad for Wednesday.
The Owls looked to have been getting a welcome boost with Ian Holloway's Foxes trailing already-relegated Colchester on their home soil, but Hume's late striker has lifted them above Wednesday on goal difference.
Elsewhere, Barnsley look to have done enough to survive this season after bagging another impressive victory, this time a 2-1 win away at Preston doing the trick for Simon Davey's troops.
But results for the Owls' other relegation rivals went in our favour, with Blackpool falling to a 3-1 defeat at Cardiff City, Coventry throwing away a lead to go down 2-1 at home to table-toppers Stoke City, and Southampton being held 1-1 at Charlton.
Scunthorpe United's fate was also sealed as Nigel Adkins' men failed to overcome Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park, going down 2-0 to Neil Warnocks' troops to seal their relegation back to League One.
Owls boss Brian Laws is sure to be relatively happy with the outcome, with only Barnsley picking up three points, but will only breathe a sigh of relief should his men pick up three points against Plymouth Argyle on Monday night.
Results of the Owls' relegation rivals:
Cardiff City 3-1 Blackpool
Charlton 1-1 Southampton
Coventry City 1-2 Stoke City
Crystal Palace 2-0 Scunthorpe United
Leicester City 1-1 Colchester United
