Owls Return To Bottom Three

Despite not being in action today, Wednesday returned to the Championship's bottom three after Iain Hume bagged a late leveller for Leicester City - but it's not all bad for Wednesday.

The Owls looked to have been getting a welcome boost with Ian Holloway's Foxes trailing already-relegated Colchester on their home soil, but Hume's late striker has lifted them above Wednesday on goal difference.

Elsewhere, Barnsley look to have done enough to survive this season after bagging another impressive victory, this time a 2-1 win away at Preston doing the trick for Simon Davey's troops.

But results for the Owls' other relegation rivals went in our favour, with Blackpool falling to a 3-1 defeat at Cardiff City, Coventry throwing away a lead to go down 2-1 at home to table-toppers Stoke City, and Southampton being held 1-1 at Charlton.

Scunthorpe United's fate was also sealed as Nigel Adkins' men failed to overcome Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park, going down 2-0 to Neil Warnocks' troops to seal their relegation back to League One.

Owls boss Brian Laws is sure to be relatively happy with the outcome, with only Barnsley picking up three points, but will only breathe a sigh of relief should his men pick up three points against Plymouth Argyle on Monday night.

Results of the Owls' relegation rivals:

Cardiff City 3-1 Blackpool
Charlton 1-1 Southampton
Coventry City 1-2 Stoke City
Crystal Palace 2-0 Scunthorpe United
Leicester City 1-1 Colchester United

thats been a great day apart from barnsley winning..if we win on monday we climb about 5 places..just need to win and if we play like we did against the pigs we will win..its all in our hands boys..as you know we play leicester and blackpool so if we go down from this situation then we deserve it..up the owls
WORKSOP..OWL
must win on monday now. and if we do its half up table for us. COME ON YOU OWLS
mick66owl
you boys confident for monday or is it squeaky bum time? it looks like the leicester match is going to be massive. worksop is right, play like you did tuesday and you will be fine
mkblade
If we played like we did in both games against you lot more often this season we'd be top 6, unfortunately the die was cast for the season in the 1st minute of the 1st match conceding a penalty at Ipswich and going on to lose 4-1, being 2 nil up at Charlton a few games later and ending up loosing 3-2 was also a sickener! When you lose all of the 1st 6 matches of the season, you're going to spend the rest of the season in and around the relegation places. Colchester and Scunny didn't start that badly and are already relegated so we have done OK considering the long term injuries suffered by key players and 3 of the best players from last season now plying their trade elsewhere (maclean/brunt/whelan).

Cheers mkblade. Good to see a pig trying to stick up for us!! I would have took those results today at 2.59pm. It's got to be nothing else but a win on Monday night, a draw is not good enough. I can see us winning the game 2-1 but it's going to be one hell of a nervous night, not for the faint hearted. I best stay away then!!
will it ever happen
I'm also going for a 3-1 win Monday night, Sahar 1st goal. I'll be happy to let macca slot a last minute consolation as well!

The beginning of the season was a real worry for me, defenders never got close to there man and both keepers were comical. We need to be much better prepared for next season. We can not let teams have 18point starts on us again.
Bigash
ill tell you what bigash all wendy fans complain about your forwards but they were a real handfull on tuesday night. by far the fastest and dangerous we have seen at the lane all season. songo look very good do you think you will be able to get him?
bladesforlife1889
You're playing devils advocate again bfl! But thanks for the compliment! If we stay up, doubt we'll be able to afford to Songo'o outright, unless the takeover goes through. I don't reckon Harry will want to let him go anyway. He's an awesome prospect. A season long loan is more realistic and would be very welcome
S6Apple
not playing devils advocate at all s6apple just other ppl that insult for no reason anyway not getting into it all again. yeh you right he is an amazing prospect and he look dangerous everytime he got the ball. do you think you could tempt them with a 1m cash deal straight away? hes not going to get any football at his parent club lets be honnest. do you think the take over will happen if you stay up?
bladesforlife1889
mkblade weve bein sayin that most of the season "if we pl;ay like we did in such and such a game well bve fine" but we arent fine, im not confident at all for the rest of the season
smiggyswfc
everything to play for smiggy tommorrow night is a huge game lets just hope sturrock doesnt come back to haunt you. it in your own hands so you only have yourselves to blame if it goes pair shaped. look at us we had it done then let it all slip away. ok wesh ham should have got points deducted but we let a 10 point gap go!!
bladesforlife1889
Signing Songo'o would show ambition and if we get the takeover thats what we need to be. Ambitious clubs get bigger attendances, I was shell shocked to see Ipswich get 29,000 today againts Norwich, but ipswich have just had a takeover, Signed Norris for 2m also.
Bigash
local derby game though bigash was expected.
bladesforlife1889
well big 6 pointer today for owls any injury news UP THE OWLS
