'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Owls' Set For Takeover Bid

The rivals to Geoff Sheard's consortium in the bid for power at Hillsborough have been revealed as a consortium led by Yorkshire-based businessmen Jon Sotnick.

Sotnick spoke to the media just hours before the Owls' huge relegation six-pointer against Leicester City at the weekend and revealed that he was all set to make a bid for the club within the 'next few days'.

The 41-year-old businessmen from Portsmouth is the former chairman of Boston United and former chief executive at Darlington and is a member of the Football League attendance committee as well as having a background in global sales and marketing.

And Sotnick told the Sheffield Star that he and his consortium, which includes 'three or four' backers from the UK who have substantial funds, are set to make a bid for the club in the coming days.

'My understanding is that we are extremely close to making the offer, but I am not willing to take an offer to the board until we can show that the funds are onshore,' he said.

He continued: 'What interests me in the history, heritage and size of the club, and the fan base,' he added.

'I know what I am doing. I have contacts in the League. I did a good job at other clubs, and Wednesday would be my biggest challenge.

'I want the team to be successful and the fans to enjoy that success.
'I want see Hillsborough as a stadium that is back at the forefront of British football, and for fans to enjoy the facilities.'

Sotnick's consortium will go head-to-head with Lancashire businessman Geoff Sheard and his consortium, who've also been in contact with the club about a takeover.

Do we know much about him? Coupe of things worry me in what he said - doesn't he know whether he has "three or four backers" yet if he's looking like putting in a bid int he near future? Also, what other clubs has he "done a good job! at before? Anyone know anything about him? Mr Sheard gets my vote at the present time

Yeah I'd much prefer Sheard at the moment, this guy sounds a bit too dodgy. pigforlife I can see where you're coming from with selling season tickets, we've tried some publicity stunts in the past (Kluivert!), but this story isnt coming from the club
