Canadians Rule Out Owls Bid

Canadian group Maple Leaf Sports and Entertainment are believed to have ruled themselves out of taking over Wednesday, despite rumours suggesting otherwise yesterday.

The Owls had revealed to the London Stock Exchange that they had appointed financial advisors Deloitte and Touche to actively seek fresh investment in to the club over the summer amid interest from a consortium led by Geoff Sheard and links with Jon Sotnick and his group.

And it had been believed that the North American group, who own MLS side Toronto FC, as well as a team in the NBA, could well be set to make a move in to English football with the Owls.

The group had visited England last month on a 'fact finding mission', with Hillsborough aming the destinations on their travels, as well as Southampton and Reading.

And even more interesting, Deloitte and Touche had also been involved with MLSE, and were believed to be looking in to purchasing a club in England.

But now the group seem to have poured cold water on the idea, and have left the Sheard and Sotnick consortium's as favourites to take over at S6 once again.

last thing we need is an owner from that neck of the woods. dont fancy supporting a team called the sheffield wizards or the wednesday warriors, far rather sheffield wedneski
Pointless the media. They were never interested in the first place.
Is this the first of three investors to pull out?? Can only think that the appointment of financial advisors to sell the club means that the club is not convinced that either the sotnik or sheard takeover will go through, and they are therefore looking for a new investor?
There's no point in believing anything is going to happen until it actually does. Knowing Wednesday, we'll again be struggling next season with a bunch of QPR rejects and loan players.
Adam Bolder would be a fantastic signing Takeover or Not....
ha ha ha ha ha ha no one whats to know because you are a shocking club with arrogant twisted fans, lol!! its all good on the red n white side of the city!!
You could do far worse than QPR rejects sir! I hope it goes through for you though, would be great to see you back in the Prem, I hope and pray we can reach the promise land soon! Bolder is an honest pro, and will provide solidity, but I think we need that little extra at the moment.
We need a clear out takeover or not - Bullen's gone already, Birch out, Gilbert out, O'Brien out, Kav out, Jeffers out, Clarke out, Esajas out (two decent 45 minute performances only v Bristol City and Preston the rest crap), Tudgay out. I'm still not convinced by Grant either.
Before you all cry foul, ask yourself if any of those players I listed are promotion material.
arrogant twisted fans..WOW!!..thats a bit much comming from you pigforlife..your the most arrogant *****er who has ever posted on this site! for twisted well it wasnt wednesday fans who were throwing 5hit and bottles of ***** on kids was it piggy?..yet again pigforlife opens is mouth without useing his!!!..oh sorry he hasnt got one has he!
Jeffers, Kav, Tudgay, Esajas are promotion material in a decent squad. Would hate to see the back of them, with money going towards the debt, we'd end up with league 2 fodder.
jeffers, esajas n tudgay out????? not convinced by grant?????????????????????????? wat u been smokin???? etienne got player of the month in sept n then unlukily got injured!! jeffers has the class for all to see just cant see him bein fit for long but u never no!! n grant... well just read peoples votes for player of the year!! first game of season he was shockin but his defence didnt help since then he's been quality!! anyone remember the point blank save vs rotherham in the cup?? pig4life is more of a wednesday fan than u deaddj!!
Before anyone gets too upset at the MLSE group pulling out ... the main property of this group is the Toronto Maple Leafs - they are the best supported and the richest hockey team in the world. In the last 10 years they have won ....nothing In the last 20 years they have won ....nothing In the last 30 years they have won.....nothing In the last 40 years they have won.....nothing They sacked the general manger 3 months ago (and have still not even started interviewing for a new one) they sacked the coach yesterday ..meanwhile the supporters and the media are 100% agreed that it is the owners that are to blame !! oh and by the way - they also have a Basketball team that has NEVER won a play off series. And the football teams star player ..... Danny Dichio !!
What? I think its fair to say there is no need to dump the current squad this summer like QPR should we get taken over this summer. Grant for one is still very young for a goalie, and has improved continuously game for game this season. Simek is good championship player (surprised hes not been sold yet), Wood, Beevers, Spurr all very good young defenders and will only improve. Mccalister seems to hang on to the ball ok, sodje seems alright to score goals, tudgay maybe a bench stricker for a promotion chasing squad. We have the makings already, just need some experienced players (not too old or injury prone).
Jeffers and Tudgay are. Nutter. Clarke will be awesome next season. Mark my words. Burch makes a good reserve keeper. I can understand the rest
DB2002: your post reminded me of a classic 'the day today' sketch with steve coogan... "in 1987, no one died, in 1988 no-one died, in 1989......... someone died"
how do u know all that DB2002?? Cant believe ONEDEADDJ wants grant out of team
Sorry onedeaddj but I have to disagree with you on a lot of those players. Birch is a decent back up keeper to Grant who has been excellent (bar the first few games while he was settling in), Gilbert yes get rid, O'Brien has done a decent job out wide for us - not flashy like JJ or Songo'o but realiable and I seem to remember him being put out there that helped steady the ship for us early int he season. Kav would do in midfield for me if he had Macca alongside him, Jeffers would be quality if he can stay fit, Clarke...would have said get rid but scored a great couple of goals at the end of the season, Essajas has so much to give I think, just needs a decent run in the side, Tudgay has battled all season for us linking up well with Sodje and needs to stay. I'm not saying we're going to set the league on fire but in our financial position I think we've the basics of a decent play-off side if we can stay injury free.
A) Jeffers is never going to be fit, get over it. He has played about 8 games in 10 years. Get rid now and save 15 grand a week or whatever ridiculous sum if being forked out on this crock. B) Clarke and Tudgay scored what, 10 goals between them? Neither will score 20 goals a season in the Championship. Ever. Clarke scores 2 goals when we're already winning and you all forget how ****ing diabolical he has been for the past 2 seasons. Do you have a memory longer than a fish? C) Most of our players were fit at the start of the season and we lost 6 in a row. D) Did you watch the game on Sunday? Did Kav make one good pass or take one good corner? Has he done either in the last 3 months? I am not saying just cut the squad in half, I'm saying make room for quality that can be used to build on the template of Beevers, Wood, Simek, Johnson, Macca, Burton, Sodje etc.
Also - Ian Turner has played 1 game for Everton this season. I'm pretty sure Everton will let him go for a million. Who would you prefer, Turner or Grant? Bearing in mind we were in automatic promotion form throughout Turner's spell here last season. I'd be happy to have Grant as back up in that case.
Woah calm down One deaddj! I'm only giving my opinion. Yes I was there on Sunday as I have been with my season ticket all season so I've seen enough to be granted a view on this. Tudgay is a player who will run all day for you and if you can cast your (fish?) memory back to how he linked up with Sodje I think it was a budding partnership that was cut short by injury. I don't think he'll ever be a 20 goals a season man - that's Sodje's role - but I think he does enough to merit a place in the team. I think Kav should be banned from all set pieces but I think he made a difference when him and Macca came on on Sunday - think he's an older experienced head in there which is often what we need. What do you suggest we start building on this template with??? I don't think Turner was the one that made the difference last season and I think Grant is becoming a reliable keeper - were YOU there on Sunday or all the other times he's saved us this season??
Got to stick with grant, scarce money needs to be spent elsewhere. Back four picks itself, Simek, Wood, Beevers and Spurr, Midfield needs a complete re vamp, upfront Sodje Plus another, Jeffers wont play enough games, and his wages will swallow large % of wage bill if he is kept and doesnt play
Aston Owl
Gotta agree with ya there Superowls !! Grant is a quality up and coming keeper and prospect for us, why are we even thinking about Ian Turner ?? Dont get me wrong Ian did a superb job for us when we needed him, but that was the past we have to looked to the future and I think Grant will soon become one of the most able and reliable goalies we have had in a good while.
It's nice to have a good keeper of our own for a change......been relying on loanees in that department too long. Turner, Carson..... Completely agree Super & Ashton. Kav & Macca together give the perfect balance in the middle of the park. Macca will literally run all day. And Kav can then concentrate on spraying passes out. Though to be fair Kav wasn't at his best during his 2nd stint with us. Macca is an awesome prospect. We should sign Bolder too if we can afford him. QPR are likely to offload - he's good backup and also works his nuts off. I wasn't sold on him at first but he improved steadily with each game. You can't knock a man who puts two past the blunts. As for Tudgay, he's vastly underrated. Yes, he's not a prolific goalscorer, but his workrate and ethic are awesome. Much like Burton. One of those teamed with a fit Sodje / Jeffers and we'll be flying next season. You heard it here first!
Got to keep Grant great 1st team keeper with Birch a decent keeper for a backup. We need at least 3 new defenders, I would bring in Marcus Hall whos out of contract i would also make a cheeky offer for Sol Cambell, yes you can all laugh. I would get rid of JJ and bring in Songo'o on a season long loan or permenant deal also bring back Matty Hamshaw whos also out of contract, i would like to add Matty has played every game for Mansfield this season without getting injured. I'd try and sell Deon Burton and try and get Scott Mcgliesh from Wycombe. But please Laws dont try and get Kav back he's a pile of *****.
Tudgay may not have scored 20 goals, but he is constantly holding the ball up, putting his heart into the game, making space, making runs, playing very good balls, closing balls down, helps everyone else out. One of the best players we have. We just need a striker so Tudgay can play the ball into the hitman.
I think you're all waaaaaaaay too optimistic about the promotion prospects of a squad that only survived relegation on the last day.
there are all a one off breed onedeaddj, the most arrogant fans on the planet. they make us all laugh
'are all a one' is incorrect grammar bladesforlife and please. i know you site is boring but use it to state your ridiculous opinions rather than littering our site with some of the utter crap you come out with thanks
