'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Our Player Of The Season!

The polls are closed, the votes have been counted and, at last, it's time to announce the results of 'Vital SWFC Player Of The Season'.

Vital SWFC forum members thought long and hard about the merits of our star players this season, but the result hasn't ever really been in doubt. So, without further ado, in traditional reverse order (though the picture above SHOULD have given the game away by now?!)...

In 3rd place, with 15% of the vote - Mark Beevers.

In 2nd place, with 17% of the vote - Tommy Spurr.

In 1st place, with 62% of the vote, the winner is:

Lee Grant - Following the Owls' early season travails, who'd have thought our goalkeeper would be our Player Of The Season? It's an indication of just how far Lee Grant has come this year. Week in, week out, Wednesday's Players' Player Of The Year is making the TV highlights reels with great saves. It's been said elsewhere that now you expect him to pull it off. If a shot or a header comes his way, it's just not going to go into the net - the latest example being his one-hander to defy Matty Pattison in the final game of the season against Norwich and turn that match on its head.

A year ago, we didn't have a keeper we could rely on. Now we do. As the season progressed, we've seen more of Lee's other skills: positioning, catching, and release of the ball (one particular fine example against Blackpool, whipping the ball out to JJ resulting in a goal for Tudders).. openly acclaimed by manager, teammates and fans alike, if he can build on this season's successes and really command that box, he'll be a giant.

Congratulations Lee, from all at Vital SWFC: keep up the good work!

Never thought that this would happen after seeing that first game of his at Ipswich.I'm not his greatest fan but credit where it's due, he's worked at it and improved no-end. Hope next season he can be far more vocal and command his area more, and then he'll be worth a fortune.Well done Granty.

Well deserved, good to have a number one we can rely on!

as i have said before he has improved as the season as progressed. 5.5 out of 10 at start mid-season would have given him 7.5 out of 10 and at the end 8.75 out of 10. WELL DONE LEE
