Laws Leaves Exit Door Open

Owls boss Brian Laws has revealed that more players could be on their way through the Hillsborough exit door this summer, on top of the seven that have already been released.

Burton O'Brien and Rob Burch headed the list of out-of-contract players that were told they could find new clubs by Laws after the end of the season.

But now the Owls gaffer has insisted that he may well have to let further players go in order to bring new ones in, should a takeover not go ahead at S6 during the close season.

Laws told BBC Radio Sheffield: 'Nobody's come knocking on my door wanting to leave and why should they. But there's got to be some hard thinking to do.'

Kenny Lunt could be one name topping the list, with the midfielder seemingly not in Laws' plans after he was shipped out on loan to Crewe at the end of last season, while Laws had also agreed to sell Leon Clarke to Southend before the deal broke down.

I volunteer Lunt and Gilbert. Clarke should stay - he's just beginning to find his feet. I can't imagine he's on a massive wage unlike Mr Lunt

Last season's top scorer? Deon is awesome!

Deon is mediocre at best. We need to ship him out and bring in players of a standard capable of pushing for promotion. He's a good player for holding the ball up but his finishing is second rate.

Regarding the takeover - a few weeks back when they said it was "imminent" and you all wet yourselves, I cautioned not to believe it until it happens. Here we are nearing the end of May and nothing has happened. Nothing will happen. It will be another relegation battle with *****e sub-standard signings in the close season. I can't wait.

A little optimism may not be amiss, even without the takeover the difference between the playoffs and the relegation was what 20 points? How many games did we draw? What was wrong with last season? We shipped to many goals early on and had to chase the game but we have a very young but potential excellant defence. We also struggled to score all season, our strikers either languish on the sick/injured list or fail to make double figures in scoring charts. I'm afraid I'm in agreement with bedford and game, Burton's stregnths for us have been in leading the line but we badly need a finisher, from what I've seen not one of our strikers fulfils that role. Get a goalscorer and we're on our way to the playoffs! Can't wait.

Players like Tudgaya nd Burton are never going to be 20 goals a season players but their workrate and holiding and linking play can't be knocked can it at this level? Sodje and a fit Jeffers will be there to get ont he end of what Burton and Tudgay battle for up front. Don't think Deon is the best player in the league by any stretch but think you're being a tad harsh on him - he got some important goals for us this seasona nd he was out of favour for at least half of it and not getting a sniff!

Mark my words - if there is no takeover, we will be in another relegation battle. Remember what I said come the end of the season.

but would Burton have been top scorer if Sodje, Tudgay & Jeffers stayed fit? Me thinks not.

the problem lastvseason is that we had a squad of about 14 first team players and as soon as they got injured we had to struggle with the scraps we need a takeover or well no team at all

No of course he wouldn't Burton, no-one is saying he's a top goal scorer for the club are they? I agree with Futures think he's a good squad player to have.

Agree with you completely SuperOwls. Burton and Tudgay are great providers. Their workrate is second to none. The pair of em are massively underrated. Sodje, Jeffers and hopefully Clarke will provide the bulk of the goals

def a good squad player and think we owe him a bit of loyalty to my mind thats 2 seasons out of 3 in the championship his goals have have kept us up and he bagged a fair few 06/07 as well. quite a few on the books however whose talent work rate and end product needs serious examination...........

I think people have to get real when it comes to Burton. We bought him for just over 100k, he scores at a rate of roughly 1 every 3 every games and he stays reasonably fit (Averaged 38 games a season for the last 4 years). In Wednesday terms that is a pretty useful asset. I agree he is not going to deliver our blue and white dreams …but in a situation where your first choice striker has never played 6 consecutive games for any team and your other preferred forward is brave and powerful, then having Deon available as the back up is pretty useful. In that role (ie 3rd striker) Wednesday will have a job finding someone as reliable without having to spend some of the limited cash available. Clearly we have other midfield priorities on which the ‘season ticket (?)’ funds should be directed.

I can see Mark Beevers and Frank Simek being sold next to pay for this years loan players . Its just one step forward three steps back each year. I can`t see a takeover happening now so it looks like we have just one option left which means we will start next season on -10 points.
