Former Owl Scores In Dale Defeat

Owls fans may not have taken much notice of the League Two Play-Off final today, but one former Owl bagged a goal at Wembley in his side's defeat.

Former Wednesday defender Rory McArdle may not be a name too familiar with all Wednesday fans after the Middlewood Road trainee made just one appearance in the famoue blue and white stripes.

But he was first on the scoresheet for current club Rochdale in their Play-Off final clash against local rivals Stockport County today - although it was County who bagged promotion thanks to a 3-2 victory.

Also on the teamsheet at Wembley was another former Wednesday player in Adam Proudlock, although the former Wolves and Ipswich man didn't get off the bench for Stockport.

McArdle came through the Wednesday youth ranks but was unable to stake a place in the first team, twice being loaned out to Dale before making his move permanent at the start of the 2007-08 campaign.

Watched the game and wondered why we had let another one slip away. Stockport had a midfield player called Gary Dicker, 22 in July, and looks good enough to take a gamble on BL for the future.
