Shrimpers Reignite Clarke Interest

Shrimpers Reignite Clarke Interest

Wednesday striker Leon Clarke could reignite his move to Southend United this summer, according to our sister site Vital Southend.

The former Wolves hitman had enjoyed a productive loan spell at Roots Hall last season and was seemingly set for a full transfer to Southend in the January transfer window before the move collapsed.

But now, according to Vital Southend, the move could well be back on this summer with Clarke deemed surplus to requirements at S6.

A close pal of Leon told Vital Southend: 'Leon has called Steve Tilson and cleared the air. He now realises that he was badly advised last year and wants to prove himself to the Southend fans, who took him to their hearts.'

Clarke earned himself cult status at Wednesday at the end of the season after bagging the crucial third goal in the 3-1 win at Leicester City, before also netting in the final match of the season against Norwich City.

But despite his late goals in the famous blue and white stripes, Clarke could well be on his way out of S6 to free up some of the wage budget to allow Owls' boss Brian Laws to bring in new players to his squad.

A big ask, mansfield, seeing as he hasn't managed to the entire time he's been with us. What's ever going to change?

if we can get most of money back we paid for him and release some wages then its TAXI for clarke
28/05/2008 10:02:00
I understand everything mansfield owl is saying, Clarke has potential but will it ever be released, even Southend are calling him fatboy but being big boned shouldn't hold him back if only he would improve his first touch, agression levels and sprint for Clarke.

Worst Wednesday striker since Lloyd Owusu. Get rid.

no way worst since kim olsen

Ya no for some reason since this guy signed I thought that one day he will be a great asset to the club, even when he was dire last season ( and I agree totaly wiith the majority... he was awful !! ) I still felt that there was something to come from Leon. I know I may be totaly wrong but I would hold back on selling him at mo, give him a good run out in friendlies and see how he looks. We know he can score, he did it at Southend, and he scored 2 off the bench in as little as 5 mins in both appearences for us at the end of the season, I know that does not make him a Top striker but lets give the guy another chance. UP THE OWLS !!!

Clarke will be good next season wherever it may be. Was beginning to show potential last season. Wasn't he Laws' first signing? How much did we pay for him? The reports reckon he'll go for £150K - thought we paid around £250K for him? Can deal with losing him as long as we get Offiong to replace. he can score 21 goals a season. I doubt Clarke could
28/05/2008 13:01:00
We need 5 strikers, cause they always get injured, he will be 5th choice after Sodje - Jeffers - Tudgay - Burton and will not get upset if not making regular first team appearances. I say keep him if we don't sign anybody else, which sadly will be the case most likely.
