Shrimpers Reignite Clarke Interest

Wednesday striker Leon Clarke could reignite his move to Southend United this summer, according to our sister site Vital Southend.

The former Wolves hitman had enjoyed a productive loan spell at Roots Hall last season and was seemingly set for a full transfer to Southend in the January transfer window before the move collapsed.

But now, according to Vital Southend, the move could well be back on this summer with Clarke deemed surplus to requirements at S6.

A close pal of Leon told Vital Southend: 'Leon has called Steve Tilson and cleared the air. He now realises that he was badly advised last year and wants to prove himself to the Southend fans, who took him to their hearts.'

Clarke earned himself cult status at Wednesday at the end of the season after bagging the crucial third goal in the 3-1 win at Leicester City, before also netting in the final match of the season against Norwich City.

But despite his late goals in the famous blue and white stripes, Clarke could well be on his way out of S6 to free up some of the wage budget to allow Owls' boss Brian Laws to bring in new players to his squad.

cant beleive im gonna say this, and yes i feel dirty, but i dont want him to go, there is definately something there if he could lose some weight
mansfieldowl
A big ask, mansfield, seeing as he hasn't managed to the entire time he's been with us. What's ever going to change?
Auckland Owl
if we can get most of money back we paid for him and release some wages then its TAXI for clarke
mick66owl
I understand everything mansfield owl is saying, Clarke has potential but will it ever be released, even Southend are calling him fatboy but being big boned shouldn't hold him back if only he would improve his first touch, agression levels and sprint speed.....taxi for Clarke.
robc
Worst Wednesday striker since Lloyd Owusu. Get rid.
onedeaddj
no way worst since kim olsen
mick66owl
Ya no for some reason since this guy signed I thought that one day he will be a great asset to the club, even when he was dire last season ( and I agree totaly wiith the majority... he was awful !! ) I still felt that there was something to come from Leon. I know I may be totaly wrong but I would hold back on selling him at mo, give him a good run out in friendlies and see how he looks. We know he can score, he did it at Southend, and he scored 2 off the bench in as little as 5 mins in both appearences for us at the end of the season, I know that does not make him a Top striker but lets give the guy another chance. UP THE OWLS !!!

Clarke will be good next season wherever it may be. Was beginning to show potential last season. Wasn't he Laws' first signing? How much did we pay for him? The reports reckon he'll go for 150K - thought we paid around 250K for him? Can deal with losing him as long as we get Offiong to replace. he can score 21 goals a season. I doubt Clarke could

We need 5 strikers, cause they always get injured, he will be 5th choice after Sodje - Jeffers - Tudgay - Burton and will not get upset if not making regular first team appearances. I say keep him if we don't sign anybody else, which sadly will be the case most likely.
RatherRandomOwl
well hes not going to oldham. they just signed o'grady from rotherham
mick66owl
i am 42 and i could score 21 goals in the scotish 2nd tier of football mate! so dont get to excited about offiong.
WORKSOP..OWL
if we turn down an offer i will actually ***** myself.

Just been on the Southend site, good lord I thought we didn't like him, but they hate him. Some of there comments were a bit harsh if i'm honest.
BedfordOwl
He can't last a full game, hes only ever used as an impact substitute, if we get several injuries to key members of the first team strikeforce and have to play him for a whole game, we'll be f***ed. Could probably do a job in League 1 though.
will_swfc9
I know he scored against Leicester and Norwich but it says something to me that both goals came at the end of the game and at the end of such important games - Leicester were pushing everything forward to get a goal and Norwich had pretty much given up, knowing they were safe and didn't give a toss anyway! I don't think he's dreadful but I certainly don't think we should turn down any offer for him however much we lose on what we paid for him. He's not mobile, doesn't seem to have much heart and spent a long time out injured this season too. Get rid.
SuperOwls
I'll drive him there myself.
aball2112
On loan to QPR for one match, away to Leeds - We lost and that was the end of Ian Holloway. Mentalist, for his final match he got in about 6 loan signings.
Boxer
i've rung all the taxi firms and none allow extra food on board to keep him going. any one know a taxi firm that will take him
mick66owl
No way southend will sign him if they read the comments made by most of you lot...
brinsworthowl
THEY WILL AS THE TEMPTATION OF FREE SHRIMPS WILL ENTICE HIM THERE
mick66owl
hahahahaha the poor bloke if only he saw this I reckon he'd drop his doughnut momentarily
aball2112
I will be surprised if Southend come back in for him. He looked like he was joining them in January until he stormed off the pitch after being subbed at Donny.
