Laws Fundraising With Owls Duo

Wednesday boss Brian Laws is looking to raise some extra funds to build his squad for the start of the 2008-09 campaign - by shipping out two of the current Owls squad.

Laws has deemed both midfielder Kenny Lunt and striker Leon Clarke surplus to requirements at Hillsborough and is keen to get the duo out of the club to help free up some funds for him to bring new players in.

Laws told BBC Radio Sheffield: 'If Leon or Kenny decide to move on then there will be money available.'

The duo have both been expected to leave S6 in recent months, although former Wolves hitman Clarke shone in the last two matches of the season - sealing the vital win over Leicester City with the last goal in the 3-1 at the Walkers, and also netting in the final day win over Norwich City.

But Clarke is set to depart for pastures new, with League One side Southend United seemingly renewing their interest in their former loan star, who looked set for a permanent move to Roots Hall when his successful loan stint ended earlier this year, only to see it collapse at the final minute.

But Clarke now seems to have made up with Shrimpers boss Steve Tilson and the move south could be back on.

Kenny Lunt also went out on loan, to former club Crewe this season, but failed to impress on the scale of Clarke at Southend, and it remains to be seen if Alex want their man back on a permanent deal.

Worksop Owl I think Placebo meant the combined wages freed up (with Lunt and Clarke departing as well as Burton). Fingers crossed, I hear Sheard has just said his intentions are still to get the takeover done anyway.

Hoorah! I thought rumour was that Lenny was the highest paid player after Jeffers? Get rid! Doesn't make sense in getting rid of Burton Sheard latest:

Been through the Burton one before - what is the point of getting rid of a player - that is your '3rd striker' (in an ideal world) - only cost 150k, does not get injured (very important considering Jeffers record) and scores roughly a goal every three games. How safe a bet do you think his replacement will be ?

With respect, the last time I checked being a striker was about scoring goals - which Burton doesn't do very consistantly. Yes, he holds the ball up... Great. But I'd take a Striker who can poach goals persistantly over that anyday. Get rid.

"Although Sheard is not allowed to go into further detail due to takeover rules and regulations, it is understood that his lawyers are trying to remove one final stumbling block. If that can be successfully overcome, a deal may even be resolved in the next two weeks." How many times have we heard this? It's just getting annoying now.

Whats the one final stumbling block? 27million debt, or something else unchangeable no doubt.

Agreed DB and Futures. Burton is a great player to have int he squad - he works his arse off and creates lots. We've had this discussion before - he's never going to be a 20 goal a season striker but he'll create for others to become just that. He didn't play for most of the this season and when he got his chance at the end he banged a good few away to help keep us up. Surely you can't complain about that?
