Baggies Ponder Beevers Swoop

Rumours surrounding Mark Beevers' future at Hillsborough continued today with the news that Premiership new-boys West Brom are pondering a £3m swoop for the in-demand defender.

The hot prospect is already said to have attracted the interest of scouts from Manchester United, Chelsea and Newcastle United.

But a move to the Baggies could be seen to be a more realistic step for the Barnsley-born centre-back who burst on to the scene to become a fans' favourite at S6 last season.

Wednesday will be more than keen to hold on to Beevers, who came through the Wednesday youth ranks, for the forthcoming season, but could be tempted with the £3m being offered by the Baggies.

Though everything could well depend on whether Geoff Sheard and his consortium manage a takeover of the Owls before the start of the season.

Players like Beevers, Wood, Spurr and Simek NEED to stay with us!! If Beevers was playing for someone like West Brom already and was in demand they'd want at least double what they are supposedly thinking of offering!! Clubs keep coming in with ridiculous offers for our best players (2m for Simek, 1m for Wood) thinking that because we are cash strapped we will bite their hands off. These players need to stay with us to benefit the club in the long run, if they stay and this takeover saga is finally sorted out, we will no longer need to accepted stupid sums of money for our players and with fresh faces finally being able to join the club, hopefully with the required quality, our youngsters WILL being playing in the Premiership but it'll be with the mighty Owls! Stick it out for now boys, it might be just a glint right now but i'm sure there is light at the end of this very long tunnel we've been stuck in!

Westyowl, you're completely right. About the back four that is, the takeover? Well I just can't get excited and remain in the believe when see camp. Speaking of camp, hope you are well sharpblades. I still feel that we need a goalscorer but if we keep the best young defence (Grant, Simek, Wood, Beevers and Spur) in the championship together then the foundations of a successful season are in place. If we sacrifice this young talent for short term expediency then we should look forward to nothing more than a relegation struggle again. If we could only play Utd every week the title would be in the bag.

I've just read that after being informed that he's surplus to requirements Leon Clarke has returned to training fit, lean and raring to go. Aside from the worryingly sudden shortage of pies in his diet this one remains a conundrum to me. I believe he is not the best player I ever saw (polite) but his goals to games ratio is better than our other strikers. I would be delighted to be proven wrong and eat humble pie (pies being readily available now Leon's taken the pledge) if the leaner, hungrier Leon proves to be the answer to our goal scoring problems. Hope he's worked on his sprint speed though.
