'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Heiloo, Heiloo, It's Good To Be Back!

The Owls kicked off the round of pre-season games in the best possible way, with a 2-0 win against HFC Haarlem in Holland.

The astroturf of the 'de Basis' stadium in Heiloo proved in the end to be no problem for the visitors, Wednesday running out comfortable winners with goals from Deon Burton and Marcus Tudgay.

The starting line up with Lee Grant in goal had a back four of McMenamin, Beevers, Hinds and our very own Tommy Spurr. Club skipper Steve Watson was at the heart of midfield alongside Chelsea youngster Jimmy Smith, JJ and Etienne Esajas ran the wings, with Burton and 'Lean' Leon Clarke up front.

The goals came in the second half, Burton converting from Tudgay's cross on 47 minutes and Tudgay himself turning in a James O'Connor shot that came back off the Dutch keeper in the 68th minute.

Boss Brian Laws made a raft of changes throughout the match, most of the travelling squad getting to see at least 45 minutes of action. Jimmy Smith was the one forced substitution - the extent of his injury remains to be seen.

So, an effective warm up for the Owls - game two in Holland is on Thursday, same place, same time, vs. Telstar.
