'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Fledgling Owls Grab Steels Draw

An inexperienced Owls side preserved the unbeaten run in pre-season on Wednesday night, but at the last gasp.

Surprise starters Kenny Lunt and Etienne Esajas provided first half highlights for Wednesday, but it was the Stocksbridge Steels who went in at the break with the lead, courtesy of an Andy Hurst strike.

The Owls mixture of Academy players and breakthrough first teamers, reinforced by the aforementioned notable names, relied on a last minute equaliser by young defender Nick Wood to take something away from the game.

Coach Sean McAuley summed up the value of the match on the official site: 'It was good for the young pros like Liam McMenamin and Richard O'Donnell because they need to play for 90 minutes. Luke Boden had a good game and Rocky Lekaj was good in spells too so it was a useful workout for the young players.'

Starting line up: O'Donnell, McMenamin, N Wood, Liversidge, Moc, R Lekaj, Lunt, Boden, Esajas, Worsfold, Tunnard.
