Owls Shake Bury

Wednesday's excellent pre-season form continues with a win at Bury courtesy of two second-half Leon Clarke goals.

With Richard Wood out due to illness, the Wednesday starting line up read Grant, Hinds, Beevers, Spurr, Gilbert, Watson, McAllister, O'Connor, Johnson, Clarke, Burton. Steve Watson took the armband.

The Owls had the best of the early exchanges against a resolute Bury team, with chances for O'Connor and Burton, but the goals came after the break from a Wednesday side unchanged from the first half.

On 54 minutes Burton set up Clarke, who lashed a volley past Shakers keeper Brown, and six minutes later 'Lean Leon' was once again the finisher, fed by Jermaine Johnson on the left.

Esajas and Sodje got half an hour of game time, Boden and Lekaj making late appearances. Bury had perhaps the better of the late exchanges, but to no avail.

Brian Laws will be pleased, in the continuing absence of Jeffers, that the strikers are in real form. We're guessing Tudgay was rested for this match, and Jimmy Smith and Wade Small, still feeling the effects of their respective injuries, also didn't travel.

But a job very well done for Brian Laws' men, who move on to meet Chesterfield at Saltergate on Tuesday, confidence high.
