Owls Trio Set For Bantams

Wednesday boss Brian Laws has arranged a final, behind closed doors friendly clash with Bradford City to give game time to Francis Jeffers, Steve Watson and Jimmy Smith.

The trio were all expected to play some part in pre-season matches but recovery from injuries has taken longer than expected.

And with less than a week until the kick-off of the new Championship season, Laws is keen to see the trio returning to action.

Laws said: 'There will be a behind-closed doors game on Tuesday against Bradford and that is just to give those who have not featured against Wigan a chance to show where they are at.

'That should mean Burnley won't have a lot to go on and that's important because we are going to try to keep our cards close to our chests.'

Laws has already insisted that he won't rush Jeffers back in to action, especially considering his forwards' fine form during the close season, but will be keen to add extra numbers to his midfield in getting club captain Watson and new loan signing Smith back to full fitness.

Im so glad Ipswich never signed that sick note Jeffers!! sorry owls but he'll never bee 100% fit!!

True Pete-the-Tractor! Who's betting that he breaks his leg or something tomorrow night?
johnnywalker69
I fear you may be right but seeing as it was a shocking tackle that injured him in the first place, it's a little unfair to call him sick note. He is a player of undoubted quality so if he does regain fitness and has a run of games, he'll score goals. I don't hear anybody saying Eduardo is injury prone yet he also was injured by a bad tackle!

jeffers the new david hirst

I can see where you're coming form sussexowl, but Jeffers was injury prone BEFORE that bad tackle from that Stoke lad, he'd only managed to play a couple of games for us prior to that, and i dont even think he's managed a full 90 minutes in a blue & white shirt, a year on from signing him!
johnnywalker69
Yeah mick66owl, Jeffers... the new, poor man's David Hirst! ;)
johnnywalker69
a very poor david hirst

Jeffers ? l'd almost forgot he was a wednesday player

If he does get fit and plays regularly it'll be like having a new player, if all the strikers stay fit there are plenty of options up front. It like to see someone a bit more creative in the middle of the park though, John Sheridan from 20 years ago will do me!!!
sussexowl
Somebody like Whelan do you mean?
Brighton Owl
I've not checked the facts so this may not be right ...but someone told me that Jeffers has NEVER started 6 consecutive games in his career (at any club) ...even if that is not right then the fact that he has only made 146 appearances in his 10 year career is enough to cause concern about ho injury prone he can be. ...oh and he has only scored a total of 13 goals since he left Everton in 2001 ...that is less than 2 a season !!!
