Tudgay Out For A Fortnight

Tudgay Out For A Fortnight

Wednesday's injury problems in attack have got worse with the news that Marcus Tudgay is expected to be sidelined for two weeks.

The former Derby County man wasn't even included in the squad for the Carling Cup clash with Rotherham United on Tuesday night but will be missing for the trip to Wolves this weekend and the home clash with Preston the following week.

The news is an extra blow to Owls boss Brian Laws, who also lost Akpo Sodje for up to two months after the hitman picked up an injury in the 4-1 thumping of Burnley at the weekend.

Laws told the official SWFC website: 'The downside though is that I had to bring Deon Burton off because Marcus Tudgay has picked up a thigh strain which could keep him out for a couple of weeks. It means we have to wrap our strikers up in cotton wool'

It means Laws is likely to opt for Deon Burton and give Leon Clarke another chance against his former club this weekened.

Ok I'm coming out in the throw JJ or Esajas on up front with Deon so we can have a bit of pace. I'm not to upset about rotherham, BL should at least now have an idea who he can rely on and who he can't. Plus he might finally give a chance to the flying dutchman, a player I believe to have the potential to be as exciting for us now as a certain no.8 was 15 or so years ago.

I have to say, despite the result, from the highlights I have seen, Esajas impressed me. I say play him up front with Burton or a 451 on Saturday, with himself and JJ on the wing, and Watson, O'Conner, and Smith or McAllister in the middle. I'll get over last night's result, as we can now focus on the league, but what bad luck losing Tudgay and Sodje, unbelievable! HAS SHEARD FALLEN OFF THE FACE OF THE PLANET, WHAT'S GOING ON WITH THE TAKEOVER?

I think last night just shows how important it is to keep our best 11 free of injury as the rest of the squad is not up to standard. Tudgay is a massive blow as he does give us options. I want an answer to the same question as you mansfieldowl Just what does go on at Hillsborough in terms of keeping players fit? We must be the unluckiest club in the country where injuries are concerned or we are not preparing players properly. Owl1 I also echo your concerns re the takeover - what has happened to Sheard. Takeover was supposed to happen in days and it has all got strangely quiet.

Can't see what Laws sees in fat Leon. He was awful last night - lazy, poor touch and just didn't look arsed. How come we can all see it and Laws can't? Though was sat near dugout last night and Laws did look as frustrated as we were at times with LC. Thought BL made some odd decisions last night (taking Deon off, leaving Leon on??) but guess he needs to keep our first team a fit as he can. I'm with you Mansfield and Cliff - what are we doing wrong that players can't stay fit??? Can't believe we conceded both time immediately after we'd scored - unprofessional to the max! Rotherham were pants and we should have got in won in the first 15 minutes, though the minute Esayas stepped up to take a pen after being the hero, he was doomed to miss, poor bugger! *****!

He took Deon off because he knew Tudgay would be out for a couple of weeks and didn't want to risk Burton being injured.

Yeah good point, I guess he was right to bring Deon off but I don't understand why Leon is on in the first place. I guess it's just a poxy league cup but a good run brings in much needed money and keeps that winning mentality going. We're shafted now we've lost Sodje and Tudders. Another ***** season ahead or am I just being a miserable get after last night??

on a tight budget our strength in depth is the achilles heel (pardon the pun jeffers) of this club, laws must be pulling his hair out and wondering how long he can keep this up, well brian, you my friend are doing a great job and your future is bright, whether that is with us or not remains to be seen!!
