Sturrock Reveals Cameron Agony

Owls boss Paul Sturrock today revealed his despair at losing out on Wolves experienced midfielder Colin Cameron to relegation rivals Millwall.

On a BBC Radio Sheffield phone-in on Monday evening, the Wednesday boss told fans how a deal to sign Cameron until the end of the season collapsed at the final hurdle because of clauses in the contract.

Wages had been agreed with the former Hearts man, and the deal was all set to go through last Thursday evening until Wolves demanded that he wouldn't be able to play against the Molineux side later this month. They also wanted to include a 24-hour recall clause in the contract which didn't satisfy Sturrock.

The following day Wednesday's loss was Millwall's gain as the London club snapped up the experienced man and later went on to record a 2-1 victory with a last gasp strike against Luton Town - lifting them to just two points behind the Owls.

Sturrock is continuing his search to add experience to the Owls squad and in answer to one caller's question, said he didn't delve into the loan market earlier because nobody could have predicted the current injury crisis at the club.

Ouch-y. Was that a realistic demand on the part of our glorious leader? I can perhaps understand him wanting Cameron not to have a 24 hr recall, we need as settled a team as possible, but surely you've got to respect their request that he doesn't play against Wolves? Wolves fans might not be too chuffed if he popped in the winner against them, not to mention Hoddle et al. As you say, the search goes on.
