McMahon Signs For Owls

Wednesday have completed the loan signing of young Middlesbrough right-back Tony McMahon on an initial one-month deal this morning.

The Owls boss has been keen to get some cover in for the injured Richard Hinds and Frank Simek at right-back, and McMahon will go straight in to the squad to face Preston at Hillsborough on Saturday.

Laws told the official SWFC site: 'Tony is a player that ticks all the right boxes. He's played in Middlesbrough's first team and is very highly valued by Gareth Southgate.

'Tony has played in Europe, he's got a great CV and I'm delighted to bring him to Sheffield Wednesday.'

McMahon has yet to become a first team regular at the Premier League club but has plenty of first team experience with the Riverside Stadium club, having played 25 times.

The former England under-19 international had a brief loan spell in the Championship last season with Blackpool so shouldn't take too long to adapt to life in the Football League.

McMahon arrived on a one-month loan deal, which could well be extended should Frank Simek require extra time to recover from his injury.

Middlesborough are hardly going to let one of their key players out on loan. He is young, he has first team experience and we need cover. Now get real and stop the stupid who? comments. Get used to the fact that we have no cash and BL needs to work with what he can find!!!!! Fingers crossed for the take over coming through

dont write him off without seeing him mansfield+thatcham....if he has played for england u19s he cant be that bad as beevers has played at that level and he aint too bad is he...give him a chance

You lot make me laugh, you moan and groan constantly about players, injuries – there’s always summat for you lot to moan about. Laws goes out into the transfer market to try and solve the problem and what do you lot do still moan and criticise his judgement, the poor guy can’t win with fans like you lot. You have to realise that you are a struggling club that cannot compete at this level financially so you have to do what we have had to do for god know how many years and deal with it.
