Halls On Trial

Halls On Trial

Wednesday boss Brian Laws has handed a trial to former Reading and Sheffield United defender John Halls this week.

The 26-year-old is without a contract and will be watched by the Owls boss this week throughout training and the reserve fixture at Shrewsbury Town on Wednesday evening before making a decision.

Wednesday are still without Frank Simek and Richard Hinds at the back, with Middlesbrough right-back Tony McMahon arriving on a month's loan deal last week to bolster the defensive ranks.

'John Halls is out of contract and is a good player so we have decided to take a look at him this week,' Laws told the official SWFC website.

'I had planned to bring him in for a trial before we signed Tony McMahon last week so we will see how things go in training and the reserve team game on Wednesday night.'

Halls was on loan at three Championship clubs last season - Crystal Palace, Preston North End and Sheffield United, and came through the Arsenal youth system before making the switch to Reading.

Do we realistically think he'll be an Owls player in the near future? Blackpool turned him down after a trial there last month and I don't want to sound elitist, but if he's not good enough for them, what makes anyone think he'll be good enough for us? It sounds like a case of "we get what we can afford" - free!

Just read that Sheard has said, money for the takeover has been moved from a Swiss bank A/C into an account with the HSBC, who SWFC have their 20M debts with?, sounds promising?

He did OK in patches for us last season. Main weakness is that he's very, very slow.

Thanks Coops. I'm just not sure he's what we need. Last thing we want is someone who is going to get beaten by pacey wingers every time.

Ok so he has no pace, but surely that is why Laws is giving him a trial? Even with zero pace he will be a better bet than Gilbert who has no pace, no skill, no positional sense, poor distribution, is left-footed and cannot tackle

BFL, I was actually thinking you were showing sense on another post you made....how wrong I was! At least coops gave us a rational statement. Please keep quiet unless you have something sensible to say.
