'If It's Football, It's Vital'

McMahon Could Extend Loan Stay

Wednesday loanee Tony McMahon could well extend his loan stay at Hillsborough when his initial one-month loan from Middlesbrough extends later this month.

The right-back was brought to the club from the Premier League outfit to plug the gap left by the injured Frank Simek and Richard Hinds and has already made a good impression on Owls' boss Brian Laws and the Wednesday faithful alike.

And with the news that Simek's comeback could well take longer than first though, McMahon has insisted that he's more than happy to stay on in the blue and white should all parties agree for an extension to his loan spell.

'I said to the gaffer, all I want to do is play football, week in, week out. Do I want to go back to Middlesbrough and sit on the bench? No, not really. I'd much rather play football and get as fit as I can,' he told the official SWFC website.

The Middlesbrough youth system product has been tipped for big things by Boro boss Gareth Southgate, but McMahon is likely to command a place in Middlesbrough's starting line-up just yet.

And with his loan spell set to expire following the Owls' home match with Ipswicxh Town later this month, it's expected that he will extend his stay for another month at least.
