Jeffers Returns In Owls Win

Injury-ravaged Wednesday striker Francis Jeffers returned to complete half an hour as the Owls' reserves beat Port Vale 3-1 on Tuesday night.

The result aside, Owls boss Brian Laws and Wednesdayites alike will have been more concerned about injured duo Jeffers and Small who both returned from injury for the clash and both came through unscathed to bag vital game time in their return to fitness.

Small played 58 minutes of the match and scored the opening goal and was replaced by former Arsenal, Everton and Blackburn Rovers man Jeffers, who in turn completed a fine return by putting in an impressive display.

Leon Clarke and Kenny Lunt bagged the other goal as Wednesday ran out comfortable winners at Hillsborough ahead of their clash with Watford on Saturday.

The visit of the Hornets will no doubt be a little too soon for both Small and Jeffers to return, but they'll no doubt be looking towards the following week's clash with Ipswich Town as a chance to return to first team matters.

Ross Davidson managed a late consolation strike for Vale but it was too little too late for the visitors, who came up against a youthful looking Wednesday reserve side which also included out-of-favour midfielder Kenny Lunt.

Could we be about to witness a miracle, no, not the takeover finally being confirmed but Jeffers regaining fitness and challenging for a 1st team place??

I am really chuffed for him but lets hope it doesnt have any adverse effect on him.

Jeffers didnt score did he? O.S has it down as Small, Lunt and Clarke. Though it says he played half n hour and set 2 up.
TarnOwl
bet es injured now
mick66owl
get him on the bench for saturday, would prefer an unfit jeffers to a fully fit clarke as backup.

I hope Lenny's happy picking up his wages for reserve team football, surely any pro worth his salt would rather play 1st team football than just training and playing for the reserves, what does he have to look forward to every Saturday, shopping with his missus, decorating etc??
sussexowl
Just read that if Frannie shows no adverse effects then Laws is going to "push him hard" in training. Is that why we have an injury crisis?
robc
excellent news, everyone keep those fingers crossed for Frannie, he will been keen and eager to go, i'd give him a place on the bench for the last 10 mins. I really feel for the guy. Is Lunt as bad as everyone says - is he worse than Clarke?
Brighton Owl
Lunt does seem to be doing things that Clarke isnt and that is scoring goals.
Skeggy Owl
According to the OS Clarke did score.
BedfordOwl
Sh1t me, now BL does have a selection problem.
Skeggy Owl
please dont stone me to death but........ two seasons ago kenny lunt was ok... now being as we have a tiny squad surely he could do a job... he has more ability than clarke and can rattle in the free kicks
mansfieldowl
I want being totally sarcastic MO.
Skeggy Owl
I agree with you Mansfield, I think Lunt's being hard done by
robc
frannie's ears!
madowl
i also agree with mansfield owl

Jeffers coming through a game, Walcott scores a hat-trick for England. We're not in Kansas anymore, strange things are afoot!
robc
Random Fact: We've now played 14 consecutive games in which both us and our opponents can't keep a clean sheet. It's probably time for a goalless draw against Watford. What do you think?
