'Wednesday Player' Cons Welsh Clubs

The name of Italian 'football star' Alessandro Zarelli is being banded around the Welsh Premier League after he tried to con his way in to numerous Welsh clubs.

Zarelli claimed to have played for numerous football clubs, including Wednesday, to try and get himself a contract with clubs in the Welsh Premier League including TNS, Nomads and Bangor City.

But when Bangor City boss Peter Davenport contacted officials at Hillsborough, they claimed to have never heard of the mystery Italian, leaving the Welsh Premier League no option other than to warn clubs about the 'player'.

'He was only here for about a week to 10 days,' Davenport told the BBC

'In that time I checked a bit into his background and it didn't add up.

'He arrived here with a broken nose, so he never actually played for Bangor. He just took part in one warm-up session.

'He was an average player, he wasn't anything special,' Davenport added.

Zarelli claimed to have arrived at the Owls in 2003 before breaking his leg and finishing his time at the club, while also claiming to have returned back to Italy with home sickness after a brief spell with Glasgow Rangers.

This was a lot longer than a year ago. I can remember seeing the programme at least 2 and a half years ago, repeated on sky many a times!!
