Owls Sign Stoke's Buxton

Wednesday boss Brian Laws has completed the loan signing of Stoke City defender Lewis Buxton on an emergency one-month loan deal.

Laws has been looking to bolster at the back in recent weeks and Buxton is set to go straight in to the squad for Sunday's Steel City derby against Sheffield United at Hillsborough on completion of the correct paperwork.

'I'm very wary of the fact that we have five games in the short space of 14 days. I thought it was vital that we increased our options at the back and I'm very pleased to bring Lewis to the club,' Laws told the official SWFC website.

He joins us on an initial emergency loan for a month but we will look to extend that to the maximum period of 93 days.

'He's got a good pedigree having played over 100 games, most of them in the Championship, and he can play anywhere in the defence, which is a very important factor for us right now.'

Laws is set to have Richard Wood back in action for Sunday's huge Championship match and Frank Simek is on the road to recovery, but was keen to bolster his squad with a high number of matches in a short space of time.

The defender has played all across the back line during his playing days with Stoke City and Portsmouth.
