Laws Praises Owls' Derby Stars

Wednesday boss Brian Laws heaped praise on his Wednesday stars following the 1-0 Steel City derby victory over Sheffield United at Hillsborough on Sunday.

Laws was left delighted at the amount of heart and desire his troops showed, and the quality of their defence when the Blades threw everything bar the proverbial kitchen sink at the Owls in the second half in the hope of an equaliser.

He told the official SWFC website: 'This derby game had everything; lots to write about, lots to talk about, incidents galore. There were some thunderous tackles going in, it was scrappy, but you have to have a lot of heart, a lot of desire and throw your bodies in the way of things.

'I give the players great credit for that because Sheffield United threw everything at us and we defended as well as we possibly could. If we defend like that for the rest of the season I will be a happy man.

'In the first 15 minutes we set about them, we got at them and we were in control. The turning point was the sending off, it turned the game on its head and it turned into a nervy affair.'

Laws will be hoping for a similar performance in a second South Yorkshire derby in two days time when he takes his men to Oakwell to take on struggling Barnsley.

But he knows all too well that with a just a day's preparation before the big clash, three more points won't be that easy to come by.

'The bragging rights go to Sheffield Wednesday this time, it puts us in fifth place and it sends a lot of happy people home with a smile on their face,' he continued.

'The downside is we have one day to recover, see how the walking wounded are and recover from a stressful match. There were a few players cramping up and that concerns me but we will be ready come Tuesday for another derby at Barnsley.'

BIG TONY
great result. Fixture list is a joke. You'd never see Man Utd playing 2 league games in as many days
Norman
credit where credit is due. but we were dun over good and propper by the ***** ref!!
bladesforlife1889
credit where it is due, ur lot were nothing today. blame the ref...
HootingMad
Sorry BFL but you're wrong.
robc
bfl, worry about ur team not the ref!
samh
The Pigs actually played better after the had a man sent off, so I'm not sure why that's a valid excuse? They were garbage. I always feared a defeat when Warnock was in charge, how the tables have turned.
welshyowl
Problem with the blunts is that no one else seems able to create the same sort of passion in the team like Colin used to!
US Owl
i'd agree with you there us part timer 110%!!
bladesforlife1889
the sending off was a huge mistake, which changed our formation, tactics, strength, tactics, and overall threat and attacking options. 11 against 11 i would have fancied us all afternoon to atleast come back into it. like i said well played and credit where its due.
bladesforlife1889
To be fair though bfl, I think the ref made bad decisions against both teams, so it probably evened itself out in a weird way!

bfl, y are u such a bad looser. u cant blame the ref for your own keeper and defender gettin in the way. personally a think the ref gave u piggys alot mor decisions but thats what i think any1 agree. so much for beatie the superstar he couldn;t hit a barn dar from a yard away!!!!! he was quiet all game due to beevers and woody having an excellent game. better look next yr (dats if were in same league)? hehe up da owls brian laws barmy army!!!!!!!!!!!!!

bladesforlife1889
bfl so much for your amazing (best defender outside the premiership) 8 million pound rated centre back, going stupidly into a tackle he should of been no where near
smiggyswfc
blame the ref all you like the facts are utd made a mistake and got punished steve watson used all his experience to take full advantage that was the difference between the two sides burton never looked confident from the spot which could have made for a easier last 20 mins .
