Wednesday fans will be paying their way down to see their team play at Crystal Palace on Saturday, but the players will also be paying out of their own pocket to travel to Selhurst Park
It's the kind of story that you'd see from a struggling League Two club, maybe even a 'small' League One club, but paper reports today are saying Wednesday players will have to fork out £30 from their own pocket for train travel to Saturday's Championship clash at Crystal Palace.
Reports in a number of daily newspapers have today revealed that Wednesday were set to travel to Selhurst Park by coach, but players weren't keen on a long journey on the motorway - and a repeat of the scenario which saw them hammered at Reading earlier in the season.
And Wednesday have confirmed that the squad will be travelling to London by train, but that it was the players' decision to do so, hitting back at reports that the club didn't want to pay for travel to an away game.
Owls boss Brian Laws told the official SWFC site: "I would stress that it was initiative that came from the players and not the club insisting that they had to pay for travel to an away game."
Wednesday will be desperate to return to winning ways against Neil Warnock's Eagles after suffering three defeats on the spin, but this latest matter at S6 could well contribute to the Owls continuing to fall down the Championship ladder.
