'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Howard Wilkinson Returns To S6

New chairman Lee Strafford has acted quickly to make changes at Hillsborough by bringing former manager Howard Wilkinson back to the club in an advisory role.

Strafford has assured fans that Wilkinson, who was a great success at the club in the 1980's, will arrive at the club as advisors to both chief executive officer Nick Parker and Strafford himself.

He wont' be coming on board in the dreaded 'football director' role which has seen many fans and football pundits question whether the role works in England.

Wilkinson will arrive to help move the club forward as far as bringing investment in is concerned, and putting in place a football strategy to help drive the club forward.

'This is a very exciting development and an instance of Wednesday people getting involved with the club to get us moved forward,' Strafford told the official Wednesday website.

'Howard brings with him a world class CV and will support myself and Nick Parker in developing the long-term strategy for the infrastructure of this football club.'

'He is a very supportive person and this is a great move which adds value to everything we are doing. Howard will act as an adviser to the board as we figure out how to produce the infrastructure that will allow Brian Laws and Sean McAuley to best fulfil the potential of our football operations.'

Howard Wilkinson told the official site: 'I am very pleased to be working with Sheffield Wednesday in a formal capacity once again and I am keen to help Lee Strafford and the club's board implement changes which will see the Owls flourish again.

'In modern football it is essential for clubs to support their staff and players in every way they can so that the management team can maximise their chances of success on the pitch.'

I'm not too sure either. I guess that provided he has no involvement in first team matters it could be good news. The last think that we want is Brian Laws to start looking over his shoulder!

when i got a phone call last night to say wilko was back i was shocked. just hope he keeps out of brian's way, never known it to work at anyclub before. also last night i was told michael gray had a medical, see if that comes true as well.

This is what Wilko had to say on SSN today..............."It was a hard decision but the decision was made easier because of the people involved (Lee and Nick) . He said what was said to him he liked because they wanted the club to get back on it's feet and the proposals they made were workable and the people in charge were in it for the right reasons. He also said they were both very very thorough and very diligent in their preparation with the regard to this and he liked the manner in which they went about it all.
will it ever happen
and now for the third thing i was told last night beattie to stoke city, i hope this one right he's the only one scoring for the pigs.

Well there expecting him to go if you look on their site. They want £6 million for him and a decent replacement. If he goes they have *****ed it!! :) :) :) :) :)

Just come across this - how I laughed! Who's going to score the only goals they get now?? They're stuffed! He was the only half decent player they had - wouldn't want to be relying on Billy Blunt for bagging me many gioals if I was a pig (perish the thought!!) http://www.teamtalk.co.za/football/story/0,16368,2483_4770500,00.html
