Owls Set For Johnson Swoop
Wednesday look set to make a swoop for West Bromich Albion's out-of-contract midfielder Andy Johnson in the summer after failing in a loan move for the player this week.
Owls boss Paul Sturrock made a last minute move to bring the 31-year-old to Hillsborough for the rest of the season before the transfer deadline for loan deals on Thursday.
But Albion blocked the move at the last minute as the Baggies fight against relegation from the Premiership. The Owls had previously shown interest in the Welshman in the January transfer window.
Johnson has made just five appearances for the Baggies this season and looks set to leave the club in the summer in search for first team football. He's made 118 starts in total since his £200,000 move from Nottingham Forest in 2001.
He began his career at Norwich City but after making over 50 appearances for the Canaries he was snapped up by Forest for £2.2 million in 1997. He made 102 starts for Forest before moving to the Baggies.
It looks as though the Owls will have to fight off competition from Leicester City who also approached Albion about loaning the experienced midfielder last week.
