'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Laws Hails Owls' 'Historic Day'

Wednesday boss Brian Laws hailed the Owls' superb 2-1 victory against rivals Sheffield United as a 'historic day' in his post-match press conference at Bramall Lane.

Goals from Tommy Spurr and Marcus Tudgay helped the Owls complete a history-making Steel City double for the season in Saturday's noon kick-off to leave the blue and white half of Sheffield firmly with the bragging rights.

And the Owls boss couldn't hide his delight after the clash.

'It's a historic day and a moment that we'll all remember,' Laws told www.swfc.co.uk.

'We have made a mark in Sheffield Wednesday's history today and I told the players before the game that we had an opportunity to become history makers and become heroes.

'I felt we approached the game in the right manner because it's not an ordinary league game. I told the players to forget about the league; they were grown men going out there but came back in as heroes.'

He continued: 'Last time we beat Sheffield United we couldn't really enjoy it because we had another came 48 hours later so I didn't enjoy it at all.

'This time our next game isn't for another week so I will enjoy this one for at least a couple of days, along with the supporters and everybody else.'

The drinks will certainly be flowing from the blue and white half of Sheffield tonight.

And Wednesdayites will be looking for more of the same with two more South Yorkshire derby matches in succession to follow, at Doncaster Rovers next Saturday and at home to Barnsley the following Tuesday.
