Owls Wait On Gilbert

Owls boss Paul Sturrock will hope defender Peter Gilbert returns with good news from an assessment on his injured knee which forced him off in the 3-1 victory over Wolves at the weekend.

Gilbert limped off after just eight minutes at Molineux after playing with a torn cartilage, but Sturrock hopes the former Plymouth and Leicester left-back will be available before the end of the season.

He told the official SWFC site: 'I'm not writing him off. If it's not a serious tear we could nurture him through until the end of the season. But if it's a bigger tear he'll have an operation straight away.'

The 22-year-old has been a key part of the Owls recent success which has seen successive victories over Preston and Wolves. He's had to adjust to be part of a back three alongside Graham Coughlan and loanee Mikkel Bischoff.

A specialist will assess the cartilage tear in the coming days, and should Gilbert require treatment which will rule him out for the rest of the season, then John Hill's return from injury couldn't have come at a better time.
