Rangers Star Rues Early Owls Exit

Former Wednesday centre-back Madjid Bougherra has spoken of his regret at leaving Hillsborough early, admitting that his move to Charlton Athletic was the wrong decision.

The Algerian was a fans' favourite during his short stint at Hillsborough before declaring his desire to move to the Premier League following interest from a number of clubs, with Charlton taking the risk of signing him before being relegated.

But Bougherra is now a firm fans' favourite at Ibrox, and has admitted to the official Rangers website that he won't be making any quick decisions in the future, having seen his enjoyable spell in the famous blue and white shirt cut short following the interest of the Addicks.

'I had gone to England from Gueugnon and when you see the Premiership on TV back in France, you want to go there quickly,' he said.

'I was still young when I was in Sheffield and having just turned 24, I made the wrong choice to move from there. I went too soon.

'Had I finished the season with Wednesday, I would have had more experience at that level and enjoyed myself more as I was very comfortable in the city there.'

Bougherra made 28 starts for Wednesday after making his 300,000 move from France, before the Addicks tempted the Owls with a 2.5 million bid which was duly accepted.

You can't blame somebody for wanting to better themselves. He made a mistake - not only does he realise that he is not embarassed to publically admit it. Crying shame is if he had stayed I reckon we would have made the playoffs that season. I'd have him back in a shot - and I think he will come back when we get promoted next season.
