'If It's Football, It's Vital'

The New King Of Leon

After bagging two goals in Wednesday's win over Burnley at the weekend Leon Clarke is finally establishing himself as a fan's favourite.

Clarke has had his critics in the past, with his work ethic and fitness questioned. Two loan spells with Oldham Athletic and Southend United saw Clarke impress and he returned to Wednesday with a different attitude.

At Burnley, Clarke looked class. Some brilliant touches and two quality finishes overshadowed Marcus Tudgay's brilliant performance. His first goal, an angled volley with his left foot to the far post wouldn't have looked out of place in any league in the world. His second, after darting through from the half way line, was tucked away with all the confidence of a top goal scorer. Maybe the chants of 'Leon' after his first goal spurred him on.

Clarke is definitely a confidence player. After getting well deserved praise from supporters and manager alike, a new contract looks set to be on the cards for the Wolverhampton born hit man.

As long as his confidence remains up, Wednesday could have a really dangerous looking front line that could worry any defence.

One moment I enjoyed was when he was delightfully put through on goal at 1-1.. he didn't do well enough with the shot and the keeper made the save but Leon was livid with himself, punching the ball away. A bit of anger, a bit of passion.. I liked seeing that. He deserved a hat trick. We want more!

If you want to talk about class - how about that new advert with Carlton palmer in it. Has anyone else seen it?

AS I said on the forum recently, they can wear pink tutus and Margaret Thatcher masks if they want, as long as they do the business on the pitch :)
