Spurr Rumours Continue

First Blackburn and Boro, now Villa. The Sunday Mirror reports that Martin O'Neill is interested in our very own Tommy Spurr.

One of the Owls' top performers this season, 21 year old Spurr will naturally be catching the eye of managers with a defensive headache and bit of money to spend.

According to the Mirror's Michael Morgan, a two million pound summer swoop is in the offing, due to the relative failure of Nicky Shorey to hold a first team place down at Villa (Morgan's theory, not mine).

It's an easy story to write though, and hard to refute: the Owls a bit skint, naturally their better players will be for sale, O'Neill likes young Brits in his team.. we've heard it all before, and we'll no doubt hear it again.

But with Championship safety all but secured and news of investment on the horizon, Brian Laws may find it a little easier than usual to resist overtures from the Premiership and elsewhere.

I think you'll find alot of the transfer talk is Spurr's agent putting his client about in the press. There are two options in my opinion. Either Spurr signs a new and improved contract at Sheff Wed, or interest in him is for real and he is looking for a move at the end of the season. Will have to wait and see how this one works out.

i think villa is the more likely option, u look at blackburn they have stephen warnock so y would they want spurr, and boro have their captain pogatetz at left back, whereas villa have shorey (poor) and a returning bouma who is over the other side of the hill and o'neill does bum his english players

Surely with the way things are going at S6 under this new regime, we aint gonna need to sell any of our main men are we??? Strafford seems to be doing some good work behind closed doors and if he can pull off some sort of investment we wont be needing the money to get us out of the mire??!! Players like Spurr, Wood, Beevers, Simek and Grant (our entire back line incidently) are the future for the Owls, if we can build on this, along with the likes of Tudgay, Mcallister etc we could be a force to reckon with!

course not wesy, cannot fault you for that and it should not be any other way fella. but..... we all have to be realistic - yes even wendy fans. players as mentioned above won't stop at a club like wendy they will want to aim higher and rightly so. wendy cannot offer what other championship clubs and prem clubs can. its all about money and contracts. if clubs come in for the likes of grant, wood, bevers, spurr, simek i'm certain they will go. it's in the papers today that bolton want tudgay!!! same with us and it's simple - if we don't go up this season we are absolutely screwed!!

i ddnt say 4th because how many of the wednesday players are going to want to go to united? nobody. the players should only reall want to go to the top 3 in the championship or whoever comes down from the premiership. because anybody in this league could go up next season because there is no difference between united in 4th to mid table. were all *****, but at least united have spent money on been *****
