Owls Re-Sign Former Legend

Owls boss Paul Sturrock has boosted his squad in the battle against the drop by signing former Wednesday legend and Northern Ireland international James Quinn until the end of the season.

Sturrock was desperate to add one more striker to his squad before the loan deadline last week but failed. But Peterborough United agreed to terminate Quinn's contract so he could return to Hillsborough for the rest of the season.

Sturrock said: 'It's a strange one as we didn't expect Peterborough to terminate the boy's contract, but we're delighted that it's all sorted out. James already knows a lot of the lads and was gutted to leave in the summer so it's great to have him back.

Quinn has agreed a short-term contract with the Owls until the end of the season, but was not signed in time for today's clash with Burnley. He's likely to be selected in the squad to face Crewe next week.

The Northern Irish international made 17 appearances for the Owls last season but only netted twice in his time at Hillsborough.

He went down in Wednesday history in the final away game of the 2004-2005 promotion season when he netted an injury time winner at Hull City to send Wednesday into the play-off, and eventually promotion to the Championship.

Now that's just plain weird. And you have to do a bit more than that to qualify as a legend.
