Owls Sign Derby's Varney

Owls boss Brian Laws has completed the loan signing he was after to bolster his squad by bringing in Derby County's Luke Varney on a one-month loan deal.

The former Crewe Alexandra man will go straight into the Wednesday squad to face Swansea City on Saturday and is likely to start the clash with the Welsh club given the Owls' current injuries.

Laws told www.swfc.co.uk: 'We know a lot about Luke and what I can say without question is that he has a tremendous work ethic. What he needs now is to get some regular games and goals under his belt.'

Laws was desperate to add to his squad following injuries to Leon Clarke, Akpo Sodje and Michael Gray recently.

And he's managed to do just that, despite missing out on his previous target, rumoured to be former Rotherham United man Alan Lee, who has since opted for a move to Norwich City.

Varney only joined the Rams in January on a permanent deal from Charlton Athletic, but has featured nine times and netted in the Rams' victory over Wednesday earlier this season.

Yeah he had a great reputation at Crewe a few years back, but seems to have gone off the boil these last few years. Hopefully Laws can get the best out of him!

A far better acquisition than Lee would've been (if it was him). I'm pleased with this, he can finish and that's what we need.

i did hear that laws desperately wanted billy sharp (old scunny days) but he turned the move down straight away. everyone knows that sharp has bags of ability but he just hasn't cut it for us.

Please explain to me why we want to sign Billy Blunt. He's not good enough to get in the squad. Get over yourself you fool.
