Returning Trio Encourage Laws

Wednesday boss Brian Laws was left disappointed with the defending that allowed Derby to take all three points from S6 - but was encouraged by his returning attacking trio.

Rob Hulse's first half header settled a dull encounter at Hillsborough on Saturday, but the Wednesday boss still had plenty of positives to take from an improved second half showing.

Injuries have plagued the Owls, especially in their attack, throughout the season.

But despite numerous setbacks, Wednesday had some good news on the injury front with three returning attacking players in Akpo Sodje, Leon Clarke and Etienne Esajas.

All three came on relatively early in the second half to try and change the game.

But although they couldn't make the breakthrough to allow the hosts to take a share of the spoils from the match, they made a good impression on their returns from their recent lay-offs.

'Etienne Esajas has certainly got qualities but his fitness is down,' Laws told www.swfc.co.uk.

'We want to get him involved in games now because he can make things happen and excite the crowd. He gets shots at goal and his delivery is excellent.

He added: 'Sodje and Clarkey were excellent when they went on too so they are real positives for the game. It should be possible to get around an hour out of the pair of them on Monday so we will look to see if we can do that.'

Laws will be hoping all three can enjoy a productive end to the current campaign to take them into the pre-season fully fit.
