Owls' Home Victory Delights Laws

Wednesday boss Brian Laws was livid with his side following Monday's defeat at Q.P.R. but was full of praise following his side's response with victory over struggling Southampton.

Laws failed to show his anger at how his side collapsed from a 2-0 lead to lose 3-2 at Loftus Road on Easter Monday and was keen for a reply against the Saints.

And a Luke Varney brace did just that as Wednesday picked up maximum points to put an end to some poor form on home soil.

'I think last Monday at QPR was the angriest I have been since I came to Sheffield Wednesday,' he told www.swfc.co.uk.

'It wasn't so much the defeat but the way in which we conceded the goals and I really needed a response today.

'I got the response I was looking for and I was pleased for the fans, who have waited a while to see us win again at home.

'We have been excellent at home for most of the season but I felt we needed a win and it was nice to get that, with a clean sheet on top.'

The Owls' performance was far from entertaining for the majority of the 24,000-plus crowd at S6, but the three points give Laws' men a chance of achieving a top half finish this term with just two games to go.
