Leon Bags One Year Owls Deal

Wednesday striker Leon Clarke has been rewarded for his hard work this season by bagging a new one-year extension to his current deal at Hillsborough.

The former Wolves man comes to the end of his deal at S6 in the summer but boss Brian Laws has acted quickly to keep the striker on his books for at least another season, with the new deal taking him until the end of the 2009-10 campaign.

'Leon has made a fantastic amount of progress this year and he has become a potent weapon in our attacking play on a consistent basis,' Laws told www.swfc.co.uk.

'I am delighted that he will be staying for at least another year with us because it is important for Sheffield Wednesday to retain our best players as we look to compete in the top half of the Championship next season.'

Clarke had failed to make an instant impression with the Wednesday faithful, and at the start of the season was maybe expected to be shown the door at the end of the current campaign.

But the 24-year-old has gone on to prove his doubters wrong and be one of the club's top scorers this season despite suffering a couple of minor injuries along the way.
