Stalwart Wednesday stopper Lee Grant today penned a deal to keep him at the club until 2012, with an option for an extra year.
England U21 honours under his belt, twice Player's Player Of The Year, a PFA Fans Award, the Vital SWFC Player of the Season for last season (no less), former Ram Lee has already racked up 95 appearances for the Owls. He told the official site: 'I have enjoyed my first two years at Sheffield Wednesday immensely and I believe we have the basis of a very strong squad here which will only get better.'
'It was an easy decision for me to commit my long-term future to Sheffield Wednesday. There is a real feeling of togetherness running through the club at the moment and there is a good chance that we can achieve success in the coming years.'
'I have been pleased with my personal form but I am still developing as a player. I always strive to improve every aspect of my game and I feel that I have plenty more to offer Sheffield Wednesday.'
Owls boss Brian Laws was elated, to judge from the superlatives. 'I firmly believe that Lee is one of the best English goalkeepers around at the moment and I don't think there is a better goalkeeper in the Championship at present. He is a model of professionalism, a great athlete and has been one of our most consistent performers in the two seasons that he has been here. The fact that a player of Lee's calibre has committed to Sheffield Wednesday for the long term is a clear sign that we are building a competitive squad for the future of this club.'
Fantastic news, alongside academy manager Sean McAuley's deal.. Owls fans will look forward to more announcements like this in the coming weeks, with Marcus Tudgay, Tommy Spurr, Richard Wood and Richard Hinds all considering new offers.
