'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Laws Praises Owls' Attitude

Wednesday boss Brian Laws was delighted to finish the season with a home victory - and praised the attitude of his side in not letting other teams in the division down.

Cardiff needed just a point to secure their top-six play-off finish, but the Owls didn't 'switch off' in the final game to give City a comfortable progression into the play-offs, and help out Preston and Burnley in their quest to get into the top six.

'If I was Preston or Burnley I would expect every other Championship football club to approach the last game of the season in the right manner,' he told www.swfc.co.uk

'It is a competition that takes place over 46 games and it would not be right to finish by switching off for the last game.

'We have to do an honest job on the pitch and that's what we did. We won the game, we did two clubs a massive favour and disappointed another one but that is the beauty of the game.'

Jermaine Johnson's 71st minute strike gave the Owls the points, and Laws was delighted to send the majority of the 30,000-plus crowd home with smiles on their faces.

He added: 'You could tell from the start this was not going to be 'just an end of season game', there was a good tempo about the place and you always need to give something to set the place alight - it took a magnificent goal from Jermaine Johnson to do that.'
