'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Strafford Continues Owls Improvements

Wednesday fans will enter Hillsborough through barcode operated turnstiles next season as chairman Lee Strafford continues to improve the facilities at S6.

It may not be groundbreaking news from the Wednesday supremo, but it's change nevertheless, and a change that Wednesday fans could have hardly believed under the old regime.

Football clubs up and down the country have already installed automated turnstiles, especially in newer grounds, mainly to cut costs of employing turnstile operators.

Season ticket holders are set to receive barcodes on each ticket from next season, with matchday tickets also carrying barcodes to ease access through turnstiles.

But it's as yet unknown whether season ticket holders will receive their ticket in the usual booklet form along with barcode, or whether they'll receive season 'cards', as is the case at such clubs like Manchester City and Leeds United.

The turnstiles will not be fully automated and the club will still employ staff to man the turnstiles and help out with the new system.
