Owls' Target Released By Cardiff

Rumours linking Darren Purse with a move to Wednesday have grown after the Bluebirds decided not to offer the defender a new contract.

The experienced centre-back has been released from Cardiff following four years at the Ninian Park club and after racking up 111 starts for the Welsh club.

Purse, who left West Bromich Albion for Cardiff for £700,000 four years ago, has already been linked with a summer move to Hillsborough.

Boss Brian Laws is keen to add some steel to his relatively young defence, with Purse carrying plenty of experience at Championship level.

And Purse's release from City could prompt Laws, and a host of other Championship clubs, to make a move for the defender sooner rather than later.

The 32-year-old has also been linked with a move to Norwich City, but their interest could well be over following relegation to League One.

wouldnt say no!!!
FUTURES BLUE N WHITE
he's a great guy and a good leader but he does get shown up defensively at this level. Hope he does well for you guys.
bluebirdshroom
would love to see him playing in our colours next season
aussie2005
Too slow, prone to cards and worse than we currently have. He was a bit part player for cardiff on last match of season and their defence was held together by Roger Johnson. Signing him would be a big mistake
caversham
.. you would be mad not to snaffle him up .. he along with Graham Kavanagh who I think you've also seen, have been inspirational club captains .. if Mr.Caversham is typical of your supporters' knowledge of the game you should start preparing for descent to Div1 .. although Darren Purse - if you were bright enough to sign him - would save you from that ..

Graham Kavanagh was very poor at Wednesday. Caversham? He an Owl?
aball2112
Great signing if he doesn't mind being fourth in line when it comes to centre backs, and doesn't want a huge salary. Leadership qualities yes, bravery yes, speed no, temper no. Squad player at best.
robc
spot on caversham, come on brian take note we don't need him, have a look around first, don't just buy the first thing that comes on the market, you've said it your self with the current climate we will have lots to choose from, if you want a donkey go to seaside.
ecco owl
So who should we realistically target then if Purse isn't good enough for us?
GameBurton07
More players will become available when the season comes to a proper end, besides you've got to ask your self why are cardiff getting rid of a player who's only played 39 times in last 2 seasons and current captain. now if it was johnson or gyepes then yes i would.
ecco owl
i wouldnt say no either-i would say hes better than hinds although if he came he wud just add to the list of slow defenders we have!!! gyepes-why???? i think we should have a go for lee croft from norwich-can play in the middle or out wide-available on a free-lets offer a contract brian!!!
supersibon
i just think cardiff think purse is not the player to give them that push towards the premiership, and some owls fans want him down here! lee croft yes, could be a good signing i agree.
ecco owl
lee croft is off to derby i think
GameBurton07
ive heard that but dont believe anything til ya see it confirmed!!! i read grants off to birmingham-hahaha-as if!!
