Laws Ends Adebola Chase

Wednesday boss Brian Laws has admitted his interest in signing Bristol City's Dele Adebola but has refused to get into 'bidding wars' for the striker.

The Owls have long been linked with the experienced hitman, with his contract set to expire at Ashton Gate this summer and Bristol unlikely to offer him a new deal.

But although Adebola will fall into Wednesday's price range - a free transfer - he's thought to have out-priced himself for a move to Hillsborough with his wage demands.

Championship rivals Nottingham Forest are also said to be interested in Adebola and could well be the favourites for his signature.

Laws told BBC Radio Sheffield that Wednesday were interested in adding him to their 2009-10 squad but have since dropped their interest.

Cripes - we cant afford to compete for the signature of Dele Adebola... I guess that rules out our unanimous suggestion/fantasy of going for Leroy Lita. Wonder where he'll end up?? More importantly, I wonder which striker we'll end up with. Does anyone know who that target was when Lawsy went abroad a few weeks ago to check on him?
GameBurton07
Thank God! A bidding war for an overrated, over the hill third division target man! Maybe that does rule us out for Lita, still nothing ventrured, nothing gained, go on BL make everyones day.
robc
its all relative though adebola wants a 2 year contract and more than 10k a week rumoured- thats a joke and if we did offer that im sure every owls fan myself included would think 'whats gone off here'' but 10k a week to a 24 striker who's capable of 20 a season rather than 7 or 8 may be different
wesp
24 yr old that should have been
wesp
so gladd that were not going for him-couldnt agree more with ya robc, over the hill-definatley and i think that if anybody in the championship would to make a move for him it would be very foolish one.
supersibon
A waste of space and money.
ollyowl70
Theres alot better and younger forwards out there capable of scoring goals,be nice to get varney back in the Blue n White Stripes.
ollyowl70
It doesnt necessarily mean we cant afford him, just that were not willing to pay him what hes asking for. Didnt want him anyway.
S12 OWL
i've been hearing rasiak banded about that'd be a good signing if true was banging em in for watford at the end of season
wesp
id still prefer lita on top of anyone!!! i wouldnt mind rasiak. wots anyone think about saganowski from the saints?? doubt he'd want to go down with em and that schneiderlinfrom saints aswell wud b a gud signing!!!
supersibon
Completely agree with everything that's been said. We shouldn't have been going for Adebola anyway, my concern was that we couldn't afford to pay his wages. But I guess you're right S12 OWL maybe Lawsy was just drawing the line. Funny you should suggest Saganowski, SuperSibon - I was thinking about him too, although both he and Rasiak are starting to knock on a bit. Lita should be prime target for us I reckon. Varney's too expensive unfortunately.
GameBurton07
we're desperate for a striker with pace. Unless the Sodge is playing (or during the handful of games we had varney) there's no-one willing to run the channels or get in behind defenders. Usually i would say yes to someone like Rasiak, but id much rather see someone like lita (not counting any chickens) or the boy sears at west ham (looking for a championship club to join on loan?) who can really worry defenders, instead of just lumping it up to a rasiak or a clarke or even jeffers at times last season (why?), only to see them out thought and out paced by average championship centre-halves. I kno its out there but so im told, we could have wright-phillips for nowt, hardly set this divison alight but didnt do too bad in his first season when southampton were still decent (11 goals i think?). Also had to fight with Jones and Rasiak for a place. Bad attitude at times but Brian's 'aard, he'd sort him out, there's surely some talent in there somewhere?
neverlicktheBeever
everything should go on lita, if we get him well be buzzing, if not we havnt lost anything
smiggyswfc
so happy we didnt get adelbola if its right and the club get £400k from brum's tv money we should use that and anything else we can to break the bank for lita
aussie2005
Lita for me, I think that might be unanimous, is that a first?
robc
if i was laws i would have transfer listed jeffers and told him to look for a new club!!!! good point about rasiak-he hasnt really got any pace but good in the air, but stil want lita top choice!!!! i wud ahve wright-phillips but im not sure id take the chance on sears to be honest.
supersibon
Yup! Cut our losses with Jeffers and list him - then go all out for Lita... I really hope Brian reads these sites. Go on Bri!!!!
GameBurton07
Who's gonna pay money for Jeffers tho? Similar to the Lunt situation, we're stuck with him til his contact runs out. In two seasons he's played 40 times (14 as sub) and scored 5! That's 1 every 8 games! I like you Brian, but this time you did very very bad!
