Laws Cools Potter Interest

Wednesday are believed to have cooled their interest in signing former loan midfielder Darren Potter on a permanent deal.

Potter enjoyed a sucessful loan stint from Wolves in the blue and white stripes in the second half last season.

And his performances looked to have impressed Owls boss Brian Laws, with Laws believed to be weighing up a move for the former Liverpool youth product.

Potter has been deemed surplus to requirements at Wolves followingn promotion to the Premier League.

And he went on record in saying that he'd like to return to S6 next season, but that a deal wasn't likely to happen overnight.

But Laws loks to have had second thoughts on signing the midfield man on a permanent deal, something backed up by the signing of Tommy Miller this week.

Would love us to sign Potter - he's proved his quality with us and sounds like a different type of player from Miller. With only Macca who I would want in midfield, we're short of options if we don't do a deal to sign him

The Star says that we are still interested, so who is right?
dobby1
Personally i don't think we'll sign anybody who requires a fee. forget Potter , Baptiste and N'guessan, freebies and cast offs thats all were going to sign this season, we've no money.

ecco has a point, BL may have extra funds but that money goes further if you use it on wages, not transfer fees. Shame, I rate Potter and a little more depth in midfield has to be a good thing. Still need a goalscorer though (no I'm not going to shut up about that).

According to the BBC website Laws wants one permanent signing and one long term loan signing, he said one midfield and one striker by the summer. wonder who it could be ?
ecco owl
Potter on loan - Lita on permanent please. Failing that, I'll settle for Macheda from Man Utd on loan and some other geezer in midfield on permanent (who I've not thought of yet).
GameBurton07
ECCO OWL HAS A REALLY GOOD POINT BUT TO ME POTTER JUST DOESNT SEEM TO BE THE SIGNING THAT WEDNESDAY NEED.WEDNESDAY NEED A YOUNG VERSION OF WATSON.WE NEED A STRONG, QUALITY CENTRAL MIDFIELDER WITH PACE.MONEY IS REALLY SHORT AT THE MOMENT AT S6 BUT IF STRAFFORD WAS A REAL WEDNESDAYITE HE'D BE PUTTING SOME OF HIS MONEY INTO WEDNESDAY. IDE BE GOING ALL OUT FOR N'GUESSAN-LITA-HOOLAHAN.)
SWFC_LUKE
WES HOOLAHAN LEROY LITA DANNY N'GUESSAN THREE PLAYERS ID LIKE TO C AT S6 NEXT SEASON. PURSE ISNT A KEY SIGNING AS WE ALREADY HAVE THREE QUALITY CENTRE-HALVES IN BEEVERS,HINDS AND WOOD
SWFC_LUKE
Dont rate Potter myself hes ad odd decent game but nothin special. We neeed an aggressive midfielder whos gonna win the ball and be able to make a decent pass, like wot we ad with danny wilson, graham hyde, carlton palmer etc.
ollyowl70
What about Fraizer campbell on a year long loan from Man utd, not done anything with spurs, but did with Hull in this league, he's got pace and scores goals, i'll have a think about a midfielder.
ecco owl
hes said he wants only 2 more signings-1 permanent and 1 season long loan-1 a midfielder and 1 striker-we'll prob end up with some rubbish youth from a prem team!!! so what hes saying is even tho the budget has been increased-weve only enough money for 4 signings and even 1 of these isant going to be permanent-not good enough in my view!!!

In defence of our new chairman, I'm far happier with his running of the club than the previous regime. My only criticism would be that ticket prices are not coming down to levels at which we'll see the crowds returning to Hilsborough in the numbers we need. The previous regime's price hike and legal action against our own supporters when coupled with the farce of the takeover and the shackling of BL re-finance was business suicide. Just look at Ken Bates running of LUFC to see where that kind of management leads. The one good thing that the last lot did was keeping Bates out of SWFC. That being said I'm only too glad to put my faith in the new chairman's 3 year plan, at least it shows forward planning unlike Kaven (couldn't they spell Kevin?) when he stated his certainty that cost was not an issue in our declining attendences (idiot!).

wednesday have made there 2permenent signings , and trust me i have recieved sme info stating that we will be making two more season long loan signing and that potter will be returning to s6 next season. why not try to sign jay simpson from arsenal on seaon-long loan??
SWFC_LUKE
absolutely deluded you lot with the names branded about!! ha ha ha ha ha keep it going its great to laugh at piggies!!
bladesforlife1889
The only great laugh is at you lot losing on monday you piggy t*at, another 6 easy points next season.
ecco owl
our last big permanent transfer.... Mr Jeffers. perhaps we're better off with freebies n cast offs
Norman
you mean you hope ecco-pig!!
bladesforlife1889
I couldnt care less with the Blunts go up or not - they'll only come straight back down.
GameBurton07
United finished 3rd and deserve to go up, but Burnley will be tough and can score from anywhere. With the potential of quality of teams getting relegated/promoted (Newcastle/Leicester) and other teams with money (QPR, Ipswich) and the quality of the teams in the play offs, this league is gonna be a nightmare next season. until we receive investment and can afford to pay transfer fees we are gonna struggle to challenge. One more midfielder and one more striker to the current squad and I think we will be nearer the bottom than the top next season, unless it is ronaldo and rooney!!!!
Radon Barrier
newcastle will crash and burn if they go down, wage bills massive, we should know about that, wouldn call leicester quality qpr have spent nothing yet keanes overrated may isnt even finshed and youre already full of pessimism sort it out mae have a bit of faith
wesp
wesp spot on newcastle will do a leeds if the lose to villa they are finished. how can you say sheffield united deserve to go up behave yourself they were in a false league position on the back of James Beattie's goals. Burnley will win on monday through sheer bloody determination it is thier season they will go straight back down with the lowest points total ever in EPL history. When will people learn having lots of money doesnt equal success its about having a champion team not a team of champions and with a few more quality additions to the first team squad and some luck with injuries i honestly fancy our chances of a top six finish
aussie2005
United have had their best run since Beattie left. Their performances against PNE were impressive. I hate United but think its their year. I dont thnk we have enough to challenge next year in a tougher league, thats not pessimism its open discussion. I can't wait for next year and their will be big crowd at hillls especially if utd and newc are involved. Close season is the time to be objective and unbiased. Although money doesn't guarantee success it sure does help - if you don't see that you are naive.

very interesting comments and some of your 'goog luck' messages on the burnley site are side splitting & pure jealousy. randon barrier is spot on with what he's said. it all depends on which blades side turns up - if its the same side that totally dominated preston then we will go up easy - if its the same blades side that came out at wembley in 97 and cardiff in 2003 were screwed. depends how you look at thing - from a blades perspective if wendy were in our position we would be thinking 'there going up' because really we so desperately don't want you to and vise versa. thats normally how it works. our big stage performances have always been so so dissapointing - just praying monday being the play-off 3rd time lucky for us. please god please make it happen!!
bladesforlife1889
yes typing error - 'good look'
bladesforlife1889
United finished third and alongside wolves have been the only team to show glimpses of premiership quality. The first 60 against PNE was very good quality football. The two young full backs are both clearly capable of premiership football. as much as i would never sympathise with United I can empathise with the tevez debacle. Had it not been a london club Utd would have stayed up. As much as i have enjoyed the Tevez affair its not right. Remember 1990 when Sunderland somehow managed to get promoted instead of us when swindon were thrown out. (mind you we didn't bang on about it forever!!!!).I have friends who are united fans - some can even walk on two legs without their knuckles scraping on the floor. My grandad was 95 yesterday and is coming to my house to watch it. He is a united fan but i shall still be shouting for Burnley. That said I think United deserve it more both for off and on field reasons. At the risk of being thrown off the site - Good Luck United.
Radon Barrier
good luck united-seriously?-sure ya a wednesday fan??? the way i see the tevez affair is if they deserved to stay up they would have got enough points to stay above the releagtion zone but they didnt because they werent good enough!!!
supersibon
didn't think i'd ever say this but nice one lads!! are you actually getting squeeky bums more than us the fact that you think we will do it. tell you what this is going to be bloody close, it could go either way. im looking forward to it but im scared to death that history is going to repeat it's self on the huge stage again. UP THE BLADES!!! PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE!!
