League Plans Transfer Changes

The Football League are looking at a number of domestic changes with the transfer system to combat financial problems throughout the game.

In a letter from Football League Chairman Lord Mawhinney to Culture Secretary Andy Burnham, Mawhinney outlined proposals to scrap the transfer window slap a transfer ban on clubs that are behind on tax payments.

The letter was in response to questions from the Government regarding finance in football and the general running of the game.

Mawhinney also looked at the possibility of a joint TV deal with the Premier League.

But his main concern was the fact that Fifa wouldn't change the current transfer system, meaning the Football League would need Government help to change the current domestic system.

Mawhinney told the BBC: 'We think the original idea was to regulate international player transfers.

'We are proposing there should be a distinction between domestic and international transfers.'

Mawhinney also looked at the chance of the Football League sharing a television deal with the Premier League to allow benefits for both organisations.

I hope this idea takes off as the winners will be clubs that handle their affairs properly. denno4
