Owls' Rasiak Move Edges Closer

Wednesday look to be moving closer to securing a deal to bring Southampton striker Grzegorz Rasiak to Hillsborough next season.

The Owls have already shown interest in the Polish striker, and were linked with a move for him last summer, only to be thwarted by his price tag,

But boss Brian Laws looks to be closing in on getting his man following the Saints' relegation to League One.

The experienced striker was on loan at Watford last season, scoring eight goals in 21 appearances for the Hornets.

And Laws has already revealed that a striker is next on his hit list as he looks to build his squad for the 2009-10 campaign sooner rather than later.

so instead of trying to get a guy(lita) whos available on a free and would offer a lot more hes gunna go for rasiak who would probably command a fee and ask for more wages-unbelievable!!!! getting more and more annoyed with BL.
supersibon
How can anyoe criticise Laws for trying to bring in a striker who scored 8 goals in 21 games? On the ratio he would give you 17/18 goals per season...I think we'd all take that?
johnswfc
17/18 goals if he stayed fit which seems a rare thing for our strikers. dont understand how anyone could be annoyed with BL though,he has worked wonders under the circumstances he has been faced with.
Dubai-Owl
lita would command at least 15k a week wages - can't see wendy paying that at all. remember he turned us down in jan when beattie went and we offered 1.5m cash + 15k a week wages. apparantly he's a thorn in the dressing room big time - take a look at him, you know what i mean. He's da man!! yeh!! finger-slap - bling!!
bladesforlife1889
Come on now guys..... anyone who truly believes we have a hope in hell of getting Lita has got to be dreaming. Sure, it would be nice to have someone as good as him, but he's well known for spitting his dummy out and not being a team player. We don't need no prima donnas at S6!
US Owl
get sodje fit for the whole season and we have the man capable of 20 goals a season
aussie2005
BFL raises an interesting point about Lita but his wages and ego may still be curtailed by the clubs that seek to pursue his signature (market forces and all that). Rasiak is a targetman that scores goals, potential foil for Tudgay possibly, even Jeffers feasibly. Interesting development.
robc
aussie is right a fit sodje may well get you 15-20 goals.
bladesforlife1889
Rasiak seems like a good move to me. Robc is spot on we need a foil for Tudders and with rasiak we have the options of sodje/rasiak as foils for tudders/jeffers. As for Lita, i'd rather have a Gallen!!!
Radon Barrier
Simply put, I don't believe the speculation linking us with Rasiak. We know that Laws wants two players: One midfielder, one striker. At the same time we here that he aims to get one guy in permanently and one in on loan... He's trying to get Potter in on a full transfer which leaves us with somebody coming in on loan... I really can't see that being Rasiak.
GameBurton07
PS. Nice to see BFL being relatively constructive for once.
GameBurton07
Interesting. Rasiak is on £11k a week but has had 2 bad injuries whilst on loan at Watford that has kept him out for 14 weeks. Scores goals but doesn't run around, doesn't close down though is good in the air.
DrWatford
would you swap him for Francis Jeffers?
GameBurton07
id swap jeffers for anyone-serious waste of money and wages!!!!
supersibon
i'd swap jeffers for michael chopra
aussie2005
If some team (run by mugs) can come and take Jeffers off our hands that would free up some serious money to be spent on wages...although I can't personally see anyone doing that....
johnswfc
id swap jeffers for a packet of polos
bradford_owl
so sick of jeffers, id release him from his contract!!!!! if weve got to pay a fee for rasiak why not pay a fee for rickie lambert or somebody like that???
supersibon
because lamberts unproven at this level?
wesp
well wesp-we bought jeffers and hes not proven at any level i think
supersibon
just read that were not pursuing rasiak because wage demands are too high!!! i for one am glad!!!!
supersibon
just read that meself, given that hes prob asking for 12k ish im glad too, scores goals but a bit injury prone hopefully that german bloke sorted sodjs hammy out and we may have our 20 goal a season striker anyway- on the lambert i wouldnt be against him looks a decent finisher just depends on fee but we were reported to be offerin 300k for rasiak so who knows
wesp
rasiak would have been good but i still think we need a different type of striker. Someone who's nippy and can get in behind defenders and score on a regular basis. With our budget this type of player would be very hard to get hold of which is why i think the new striker will be the loan player Brian has mentioned already. Personally i wouldnt want Lambert, has only recently began to score prolifically, and thats in league 1! The £1m they are asking for seems both unrealistic (where are we gonna find £1m) and risky considering the sharps, eastwoods and lisbie's of this world, who have shone in smaller sides but then failed to live up to their heafty price tags!
neverlicktheBeever
well granted the £1mill price tag is too much for us but i think he would have been a better signing than rasiak!!! it has to be(providing its the permanent signing) between lita and saganowski!!! even with tantrums etc id still have him and release jeffers and use his wages to fund lita or saganowski.
supersibon
but we can't just release jeffers, we'd still have to pay out his contract, why do you think it took us three yeras to ditch kenny lunt? in a perfect world players like lita and saganowski would be queuing up to join a club like wednesday but we've got to be realistic, if we can't afford rasiak then we've got no chance with these two, saganowski is on 15 a week ive heard! lita wont be on much less! lets hope im wrong tho!
neverlicktheBeever
new to this so go easy i think the names getting put around are unrealistic..would keep jeffers good squad player plus dont have the money to let him go.some lower league players arent up to the pace of the CHAMP .I watch alot of irish league football and one player caught my eye DAVE MOONEY
dublin owl
SORRY DONT KNOW WAT HAPPEN but mooney of reading got more goals than doyle when he was in irish football.done good with bad norwich side could be very good for us..quick and top finisher could get cheap and low wage might not be in new managers plans at reading..think miller and purse are good signings for us wat else can you get with no money
