Folly: Sign Him Up!

The latest poll on Vital Sheffield Wednesday has revealed the majority of Wednesday fans would love Paul Sturrock to make the signing of on-loan Southampton midfielder Yoann Folly permanent.

A whopping 78 per cent of Vital Sheffield Wednesday users have called for the Owls boss to sign the 20-year-old French midfielder on a permanent basis, after impressing at Hillsborough since signing from the Saints at the end of January.

Folly, who made his breakthrough at Southampton under Paul Sturrock's guidance, has made 11 appearances in an Owls shirt, helping Wednesday in the battle against relegation.

After taking time to settle in to Sturrock's plans, Folly has finally bedded his place in the centre of midfield and was an integral part to the Owls recent successful spell of four games without defeat.

Only 9 per cent of voters have voted against Folly joining the Owls permanently, with 13 per cent thinking we should wait until the end of the season before we make any permanent moves.

The French midfielder began his career at French First Division side St Etienne. He never made an appearance for the club, but was spotted by the Southampton scouts and finally made the move to the South coast club in the summer of 2003 for a fee of £250,000. He was brought into the Saints first team squad by current Owls boss Paul Sturrock, but somewhow lost his way after the Scot departed the Saints. Since then he's been loaned out on short term deals to Nottingham Forest and Preston North End respectfully.

Sturrock brought Folly to Hillsborough with big expectations, but has yet to give any clues as to whether he'll try and make a move for the Frenchman in the summer. The Wednesday fans have definately made their opinions heard - with a big thumbs up to the potential signing of the current Owls midfield engine.

I'd definately got for him depending on the price. We need experience but he seems to have experiene beyond his years. Apparantly forest tried signing him permanently when he was there but they failed because southampton wouldn't let him go. Worth a try though!

Saints wouldn't let him go yet he only made 12 starts in their team.. we should be in with a chance. Let's hope the board come up with the necessary to get players like this in the team.
